stereo trouble vw bora 2.3 v5 w reg need help

help my stereo on my vw bora 2.3 v5 won't play cd's and the radio has got a piss poor signal so i can just about pick up radio stations but gets interferance all the time does anyone know how to correct this problem as i don't want to take to vw itself if at all possible
