What a joke.

must be to pay for all that wear and tear on that really, really busy road that has worked wonders in relieving rush our traffic on the M6...

Good! The more prices go up the less people will use it so more of the message is being given to the powers that be that we don't want toll roads.

good point!

i use the road occasionally coming back from kettering to lichfield for work. its the only road in the midlands where you can go for miles during rush hour and only pass a handful of cars.

only thing its good for is late night max speed runs!

LadVR6 You want to be careful now with the high speed runs as the Cops are now frequently having Mobile cameras on the bridges, the main place being the access over the services I live not far from the road and go over the bridge from the A5 up to Norton Canes. When you look across to the service bridge they are there easily 4 times per week. Its a great spot for them as they stop you as you have to slow down for the Main carriage way Toll Booths a mile ahead

I used to be a conscientious objector but have started to use it - I don't think I've done a return journey without seeing an unmarked Police car having pulled someone over.
A couple of weeks ago they had a laser on one of the bridges a whole load of chase cars further on that had stopped cars - like an ANPR trap, but unlikely that would be worthwhile there.

I only use it as I can expense it - but I use it 4 times a week (since it opened) and have NEVER seen a camera, laser, or marked/unmarked car on the hard shoulder.

Just lucky or are the times I go outside of their normal operating hours?

I must live down the road from you as im from Wyrley. yes i've seen the cops on there a few times, usually theres cameras on saturday. i went down there recently and there was a camera on a bridge and a quarter of a mille further there was 6 (yes thats right, 6!) police cars queing on a slip road just after the toll booths. thought it was a bit of overkill, be better off on the m6...

Have seen a few crashed cars in early hours of the morning on there with no other cars involved, people falling asleep due to nothing around them? i wonder..

If they raise the prices boy those two services on the tollroad will be ghost towns..
Where is the second one?

Back on topic ... is there a link to the proposed price changes? I used to have a M6 Toll tag, because it saved about 17 p per trip (and was quicker). Then they put the rental price for the tag up from 50p to £1 a month ... meaning that I needed to go more than 5 times a month to break even. I sent my tag back in disgust.

I've used it a fair bit and have seen the Police once - with a speed gun under one of the bridges. To be honest, I rarely see the police on any motorways these days - and my commute includes 30 miles on the M1.

Do not know if its gone national but our local TV news and evening paper carried the story. Take it from me just lately the cops have been concentrating their efforts on the Toll as said before they are on the bridges. I think their revenues will take a hit this month and the start of Jan with all the Car plants and factories on 4/6 week shutdowns

last year I drove from Geneva to Le Havre on the Peage (Toll) - about 400 miles - about 60 miles of the motorway near Geneva is an amazing stretch of Road, it must have been a major construction project. It runs along the sides of mountains built on on huge 100ft high concrete stilts, through Tunnels, over bridges etc etc. The cost for the 400 miles was under £30! Here in Britain 27 miles of flat boring normal motorway costs nearly a Fiver!! What a Rip off.

£4.70

I use it whenever I travel on business, but at that price even getting my employer to pay for it seems a bit steep. I may give the old M6 another go in the new year.

I emailed them to point out their rise 'due to inflation' was excessive as we're in a recession and hence there is DEFLATION and I'd be expecting them to take the price down to below £4 to compensate for this.

Not had a response yet!

Next time you drive through tell the toll booth operator that times are hard and you're paying £3.50 and not a penny more. I think you can do that.

Using the Toll road on a long, occasional, south-north,north-south journey saves me so much time I am willing to pay it.

If I was local and it was going to cost me that daily? I'd go a different way. F**k that.

Surely it depends on the number of people in the car? If solo then its the full price but say there are 4 of you is a £1 each... and you'll be destination quicker - on average - therefore well worthwhile.

Note I have never used it.

You could say why bother paying for the Seven Bridge to get into Wales go up through Gloucester then you will save the near on £5. However it will probably take you the best part of 1 hour extra in time & the extra miles you may save 60% of the cost. Is it worth doing that to avoid the toll??? NO. If your coming from the North YES East or South NO.
