SCANDALOUS FUEL PROFITS BY BP & SHELL !
Discussion
Why-o-Why are we letting these bas7ards ( Shell & BP ) get away with he raping of British motorists year after year ??
I beggars belief !
BP's 39% profits rise in the face of suffering family finances is robbery and the Government is a lap dog poodle to them, the gutless
New Labour & opposition party's need to be publicly hung drawn and quartered at Tower bridge.
Where is all the headlines about this ? and as far as I can see NOTHING on this site either ?
Pistonheads should have this as leading headlines, Come on PH get your act together and get a petition going to Parliament about this
scandalous profiteering and debauchery !!!

Are you suggesting Shell and BP control the world oil price?
If they do, they seem to have screwed up as both companies ran the last quarter at a loss.
If you have a problem with petrol forecourt prices I suggest you look at the politicians who are stealing from us for our own good.....

What the heck are you going on about? You think the government should *stop* oil companies making a profit? How about supermarkets, should they stop *them* making a profit too? Anybody else you don't think is entitled to make a profit? At least the oil companies do actually do something useful to earn their money, like find the oil and supply it to us. All the government does is sit there raking in the fuel duty. How big are the oil companies' profits compared to the government's tax and duty cut? Pretty tiny I suspect.BPs profit was 7% of turnover. In that context it doesn't sound so 'Scandalous' does it?
Think about this.
To get a litre of petrol to your tank, BP has to:
Find oil
Drill it out of the ground
Transport to a refinery
Refine it
Store it
Ship it to market
Distribute it to a petrol station
Sell it
and they manage this for what, 45p a litre? Thats about 1/4 the price of the bottle of water I bought on the M4 this morning.

I just can't believe all of you !
You all obviously don't need the money and are happy with the current situation happening in UK, so you deserve all the sh!t thrown
at you. Sorry..... I have underestimated the the current support for Rip-off-Britain's establishments profiteering, racketeering & squandering and you all must enjoy a good financial shafting !!!
Regardless of who it is BP,Shell,Government it's still F'n ridiculous that we are being fleeced by all concerned.
Unless you all work and have an invested interest in each of them ?
Funny how you are all now supporting these profits and price rises, yet over the past year or so on these forums and news comments
99 % of post contributers made their feelings known just what they thought of the Government and Fuel company's in general !
Or have you all short term memories ?

Who said we're supporting high petrol prices? Not one person here will advocate that.
But, importantly, we're not naive to think the high prices come from the likes of BP and Shell.
How do you propose that BP and Shell (as you've named them) find further, deeper, thicker, more difficult to process oil fields if they're not allowed to make a profit to invest in future finds, or even new technologies?

can you answer these simple questions:
how many people do BP or Shell employ?
how much investment do they make a year?
what is their turnover?
how much tax do they pay?
how much of your pension (via the state) is held in BP & Shell?
note to TW>>> must try harder.

For your information we were moaning about the increase in petrol caused by oil speculators (not the companies) OPEC (not the companies) and government taxation (not the companies).
But there you go have a good moan about a company making a profit, I'll tell you what we'll force them to break even every year. Then you won't have a private pension plan, your savings will be worthless as inflation increases and with no profits being available they won't be able to reinvest so within a short few years they will be unable to replace their broken and old machinery. They would have to declare bankruptcy and lay off the 20,000+ workers and then the 200,000+ workers who rely on them for business would be made redundant as well. 3rd world here we come, still at least you will be able to sit on your arse and receive food parcels from the Sudan whilst watching Jeremy Kyle, although you wouldn't because we would not have the capacity to produce our own oil or the money to buy in oil for the power stations to provide the electricity.

blah blah blah
You're blaming entirely the wrong people. When you buy a gallon of petrol, over half the cost goes directly to the government in the form of fuel duty and VAT. The fuel companies only see about 30p of which their profit is around 2.5p. The retailers take around 8p which is more or less the same as their running costs.
So should you be worried about the oil companies and retailers doing all the work and earning a couple of pence per liter profit, or the government taking 50-60p straight out of your pocket?

Brownose and his useless cronies slap tax of up to 70% on petrol and they have done nothing to earn this revenue. It's tax, tax and more tax.
Just think, if BP and Shell ran the country, we wouldn't have huge debts burdening us.
So I suggest TW, please do some more homework before hurling your anger at the wrong target.
