250 TR Set to Fetch Record Price

Rare Ferrari could become the most expensive ever...

250 TR is worth more than some banks...
250 TR is worth more than some banks...
This gorgeous '57 Ferrari 250 TR is expected to set a new world record auction price for a vintage car when it goes under the hammer in May, comfortably eclipsing the €7m fetched by a a '61 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider last year.

The annual Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event run by RM Auctions with Sotheby’s looks set to be a corker, with the auctioneers predicting an unprecedented collection of historic Ferraris up for sale.

The icing on this year's cake will be the 'pontoon fender' 250 TR, one of only 22 built in '57/'58. In all, the Scaglietti designed 250 TR entered 19 international championship races and took victory in ten of them, a record which has afforded the car legendary status among collectors.

This particular example was raced in the 1000km Buenos Aires by its first owner, before being campaigned successfully in North America by Texas rancher and entrepreneur Alan Connell and is offered in original black coachwork with red nose.

Not a Fezza fan in the slightest (except Dino and Daytona), but I have to say, this is really rather gorgeous....

Looks a little like a C/D-Type Jag from some angles though? Or is that just me.........

It's a beautiful thing, no doubt, but is it really the car that Ferrari supplied in 1957? It seems to lack even the ghost of its illustrious past. It is so perfect and unblemished that it hardly makes sense to regard it as a car at all, let alone one that did great battle. Look at those seats, for instance, they look absolutely un-sat-upon! Likewise that red nose cone: not a trace of Mexican dirt there.

Will we be looking at todays Fezzas so passionately in 50 years time?
Doubt it. The old cars seem to have elegance and grace built into them as standard

Surely a vintage car has fetched more than 7,000,000 euro before?

I've got a Burago model of a 250 TR. Beautiful thing, but I do prefer the 250 GTO model I have.
