WRC Imprezas For Sale

Prodrive sells off classic rally cars including first-ever WRC Impreza

The first-ever World Rally Car spec Subaru Impreza is up for sale for £85k on a new website dedicated to pre-owned Prodrive rally cars.

The 1997 Impreza WRC, chassis number PRO-WRC-97-001, was the first Impreza built to the new 1997 WRC regs that replaced the old Group A category. Although it was never campaigned in the WRC by the Subaru/Prodrive works team, it was used extensively for testing in the hands of Colin McRae, Pierro Liatti and Kenneth Erikkson before being sold on to a private customer in 1998. It is now being offered for sale in the official Team Subaru livery from the Rally of Finland 1997.

There are a further seven former works Impreza WRC cars up for grabs on the official Prodrive ‘Cars for sale’ website, as well as 17 Impreza Group Ns.

‘A lot of our customers want to buy the latest updated car every season, so over the years we’ve built hundreds of rally cars, especially in Group N where we typically build 50 a year. We want to provide a service where buyers can access genuine Prodrive built cars that have been pre-owned’, Prodrive spokesman Ben Sayer tells PH.

So if you fancy a crack at getting down and dirty with your local rally crowd, point your browser at www.prodrive.com/carsforsale

Prices range from £50k for a 2005 Impreza Group N up to £350k for one of last year’s WRC machines.

Is prodrive in trouble then? or just shifting on some old gear?? seems a little coincidental that they are selling off all these motors in a credit crunch and after Subaru pull out of WRC

Not sure why this has been announced,I was under the impression that they have had a very similar system running for years, hence all the WRC cars in ireland, I was sure that they offer factory support (at a cost) to these guys?

If you have enough money, they'll run the car for a whole season for you. There are varying levels of support right up to the top where all you do is turn up, get in and drive.

For what you get, that isn't as much as I'd have thought!

You'd have great fun owning one of them smile

One of my all time favourite cars!... Ever... In the whole world. biggrin (I like the WRC99 tarmac-spec version with the OZ SuperT 15-spokes a little better - but those Speedline 6-spokes are still soooo cool). drivingbow

Indeed, if I won the Lotto, this would be the FIRST (of many) cars that I'd snare. Oh yes indeedy.

Save yourself c.£13k for a WRC97-00 spec car (scroll to just before midway for WRC car sales).

http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/1.html

Annoyingly, the links to the spec/details aren't working.

as far as i can tell they arent prodrive's property.... they are merely acting as middlemen??

Unfortunately no.

I've tried loads of varying image searches for 'WRC99', 'WRC 99', 'WRC 1999', 'IMPREZA WRC 99', etc., etc., and there's bugger all that comes up anymore!

It would appear that virtually all of those images are no longer hosted on the web either. Damn!
