Brembo and DaimlerChrysler sign ceramic brake JV

Reuters / November 05, 2003

MILAN -- Italian brake maker Brembo said on Wednesday it had agreed to set up a 50-50 joint venture with German auto group DaimlerChrysler to produce ceramic brakes.

The northern-Italy based joint venture will begin to produce brakes in January and may eventually develop and produce other car parts, Brembo said in a statement.

No value was given for the venture.

I will say, the only car with ceramics that I have been in close proximity to was the Enzo recently. They also have a peculiar smell when warmed up...

Perhaps they shouldn't be serving pasta on them before puting them on the car

I hope they get them sorted before shipping em out to the customers.

A number hoonatics with Porsches PCCB system on GT2s and Turbos, who really drive their cars, ie abuse them on track/airfield days are switching to brembo steels due to the damn PCCB things virtually falling apart and costing an absolute bloody fortune to replace. Not good considering Porsches original pitch of the rotors lasting the life of the car.

(Seriously glad my OPC and Porsche GB wouldn't let me have ceramics on my car when I ordered it.)

Fancy technology, although value for money seems suspect at this point.

Carbon brakes (equally expensive)never took off for road use due to the small matter of the need to heat them to 800 degrees before they work properly!
