I'm pretty sure they dubbed the noise the mustang made with a GT40.

But anything with a hemi sounds amazing, not really a muscle car but close:

I'm not so sure about that.
I was at Le Mans Classic in 2006 40 year celebrations of GT40 winning and I can't say any of the originals or the Replicas sounded anything like that Bullit sounded.

Yes because they put the sound in afterwards & they wont use the original engine sound. Bullit is a good example of this.

A 289 Falcon, a 427 Galaxie and a 289 mustang all at the first corner at Goodwood... one of the greatest noises ever.

Also the old man has a record (yes real vinyl) of a GT race going round Sebring in the 60s. Shame you can't see the cars but there is some great noise! i would imagine mustangs and falcons and the odd 'cuda out there..

Sorry Bob, but you're wrong there! The soundtrack to the Bullett mustang was that of the real thing. IIRC Ford sold a very special twin walled silencer exhaust system which was an optional extra for the hot 'stangs, and it was Very loud (think they only made it for a short time)
The director wanted to get the film as realistic as possible,so most of it was recorded actually on site,or on the move.
On another slightly off-topic subject, the film 'Battle of britain' is the same. Actual recordings were made in-cockpit during the filming to get as realistic as possible soundtrack of what HAS to be the greatest engine of them all- the RR Merlin!?
Andy
Oh and for my vote- Ford GT40 ....Or TVR Wedge:0)
