What a backward looking step for a major manufacturer. Has Ford run out of ideas?

I think it's unimaginative to look to the past in the way Ford are doing currently. However the cars they are producing as a result are very good looking.

A modern interpretation of the GT40 with modern technologies is a superb idea. How I'd love to take to the track in one or have one parked outside right now!

Well it looks very very nice...
But should it not be based on a Lola car like the first GT40 ?

Will it sound as good as the first one?Mmmmmmmmm

I think the interior looks great.

Now when are they going to to a modern interpretation of the Mk 1 Cortina with a V8, the cheque book is waiting.

if the modern interpretation of a sports car is as Toyota, vauxhall etc this suits me fine.....does this mean the 49 is going into production? cos that is a great looking saloon.......alex probably wouldn't like it though

The 49 should see production by 2005:

IMHO Ford have a real opportunity here to revitalize the brand. As many in the "car media" have pointed out, there is the beginning of a sports car rennaisance happening in the US. He who gets to market with the best, first, will win...

I better contact my Ford dealer and get on the list before I find out that the wait for the GT40 will be 2 years just like the Mini, M3 and Lotus Elise!

No, that's made by Chrysler, not Ford.

thom, what's the spec on that? On the AC website they will produce quite a few cobra variants. I think one of them was a 7 liter ford lump.

Will people of average height be able to get into this one? I once tried to get into a real GT40 and got about half of my 6ft 4ins frame in! I can't see four extra inches making that much impact (the rest of this sentence, I leave to you Pistonheads to complete)

Incidentally, has Ford managed to buy the name 'GT40' back off the people they sold it to? There's embarrassing!

Actually GT40 is the concept name. According to Ford, the final name has yet to be determined. Funny note, the code name for this vehicle, while it was being developed was "Petunia" just to hide it's true nature from the auto press until they were ready!
