Today is the anniversary of the death of one of the greatest British drivers ever...Jim Clark.
The guy could drive and race any car he drove.
41 years, it sure goes quick and even quicker as you one gets older.

Sure does. If you are ever in the borders region, try and get to duns, his home town, there is(or used to be)a jim clark museum called the The Jim Clark Room. Well worth a visit, lots of original artifacts, and last time i went they had a video of his career running!

The Jim Clark room at Duns is indeed still open, I was there only a couple of weeks ago.

It is open during normal office hours, is free and is well sign posted in Duns. The room is, I think, part of a small council building on the main road in.

Although the room itself isn't very large, there is loads of information and memorabilia. There is even a photo of the visitors' book being signed by Ayrton Senna!

What a lot of folks dont know is that Ian his manager/best friend and the guy who opened/runs the museum is also one of the most respected and well known architects in the area. When I was looking to buy some land in the Borders and build there, his company was one of the ones I contacted for some designs. Then when Sarah and I were filming up for there for a tv show, they basically took us to a self build home already done and invited him along as the architect. I didnt realise at the time that this small old architecture chap was also the same bloke I had spoken to a cpl of times when I was checking out his designs. During filming, I noted that Ian and the house owner were spending a lot of time in his garage, so being a nosey bugger I wandered up and asked if I could poke my nose in, and what did I find? A Type 35 Bug...well OK a Teal, but still...car geekery conversation soon got started. I was shocked then to learn who this old small architect chap was! As I recall, in between bouts of filming, the rest of the afternoon was taken up with conversations about Clark.

I can still remember the day he died, being in my Dads car when it came on the radio. I've just treated myself to a couple of Jim Clark DVD's for my birthday. They were proper racing drivers in those days, driving everything from lotus Cortinas to Indy cars.

One of my most prized possessions is a book called "The Ford Book of Competition Motoring" Inside are various 'how to' chapters all written in their own hand by famous drivers of the era ('60's) including a lovely piece by Jim Clark. Apparently, one of his prized possessions was an autographed pic of Sir Stirling Moss!

In my dream garage, I'd have his Indy Lotus, a Galaxie and a Cortina-Lotus as used by the master...

Thank God for Youtube!!
