Agency Drivers
Discussion
Has anyone had a bad experiance with Agency drivers well this funny in a way but could have been serious!! My dad owns a Robin Reliant, and trying to turn it into a super car has painted it Lambo orange and stuck a massive rear wing on the roof of the car (used no nails glue i think!!) any way it was parked outside his house of which opposite is a BT exchange and a lorry delivering turned into this depot and the rear of the lorry took out his beloved Robin!! it literally caught the drivers door and ripped it clean off!!! and then dragged the poor pig across the road much to the horror of my dad when he heard this almighty bang and looked out to see this!!. When the driver was questioned he stated that he was "just an agency driver" and that he had NO experiance driving a lorry!!!!! How the hell can this be allowed?. Surley there should be some sort of vetting of agency temps before handing them keys to 7.5 tonne lorries as he when he dropped off his delivery, he then started driving off whilist a bus came pass and nearly took that out also!!! it is frightning that us driving around in our loved sports cars etc are at risk of inexperianced agency drivers!!!!
The law changed in Jan 1997. Anyone passing their driving test since 01/01/97 is limited to 3 1/2 tons with 750kg trailer. Those who passed before that date can drive up to 7 1/2 tons with a 4 ton trailer!? No wonder it was changed. This is class C1.
I bet there are many under 30s driving a big 4x4 pulling daddy's caravan who are driving illegally, without realising it.

It's crazy really, my mother (60 this year) can drive a 7.5tonne truck, and yet I can't. Personally I think I'd probably manage it better than she can, yet it's illegal for me to do so! Just mad removing the rights from drivers after a certain date, why not remove the rights from *all* drivers who cannot demonstrate their use of those rights! Even a quick 15minute evaluation instead of a full test would be a good idea.
Saying that I drove a 7.5tonne truck at the weekend off the public highway, and while being a bit tricker than your average vehicle they're fairly straightforward. Nothing like the Artic I drove a few years back on another private site

Agency drivers are refered to in the industry as "rent-a-dent's" ..... aint always toungue in cheek either. Whats really worrying is that lads in the army come out with Class1 licences (artics to those who don't know) and they've only ever driver Landrovers with water tanks on the back, but their licence says they can drive a 44t .... thats scary!
Basically all truckers slate agency drivers and say they are a waste of space, can't drive etc etc but they forget that they all had to learn some how and most of them would have damaged a number of trucks beforehand!
The majority of "proper" truckers would have been agency drivers before being offered a full time job anyway. Its just the way it is.

I'm an agency driver. Oh and psychic as I'm expected to know every truck on the road, every companies polices and paperwork as soon as I set foot in the door. I enjoy my job as I've met some right muppets who I'd never work for or with.
With regards to the OP's question, the company he was driving for will be insured and he will have to report the incident to his employer and the client.
Hopefully you got his details, at the least his reg number so you can contact the police if need be.
Not all agency drivers are neanderthals, we just drive that way!!

Many experienced drivers (10 years +) choose to drive for agencies because it offers them such a flexible approach to their days of work. To "tar” all agency drivers as “rent a dent” is somewhat unfair as many are proven excellent drivers. Agreed some are very poor but isn’t that the same in any employment sector. The majority of "proper" truckers would have been agency drivers before being offered a full time job anyway.
