Scrappage plans are a terrible idea IMO, but subsidies for plug-in hybrids is a much better one.
I wonder if I could get a £5,000 subsidy on a £6,000 Vectrix? If so, I'll take two.

Wonderful idea. If you take a blinkered, simplistic view of things. Have they ever take a systems view of any policy that's ever been implimented or is everything a simple concept to win votes without taking the whole implications into account?
I just answered my own question didn't I?

I agree with you in that in principle I think it's a good idea, but in practice I can safely bet that it will be engineered to win votes rather than be for the betterment of society....Wonderful idea. I can't wait. This comes in in 2011 and the nuclear station will come on line by 2020 so thats 9 years of being unable to charge your car for fear of overloading the grid. Fortunately I plan of being elswhere by 2011 but I might just make an investment in a candle company for when the power cuts come.

we are running into serious power supply problems, driven by this shower writing green cheques they can't cover. Network Rail are committed to produce so many Km of electrified track per year and we're in the dark ages as far as our supply network is concerned.....yet we are placing our faith in windmill farms?!!Edited by Invisible man on Friday 17th April 08:03
This has been touted on Sky News all day as a 'Green' measure. Assuming by Green they mean good for the environment, it's pretty infuriating that the media are pushing the idea that burning coal to generate electricity, then transferring it hundreds of miles, then using it to charge a battery is in anyway good for the environment.

THis arguement has been done to death, and it falls on its face every time.Kiss my arse Gordon... second thoughts, I might catch NuLaber disease!
This is where the money will go.
Foreign cars and foreign companies.
Note the Plug in point closely... EDF
Electricitie de France

About as well thought out as everything else by these simpletons.
Thought.
If this was reality. You come along behind this Prius owner car, simply unplug and plug into your leccy car ha ha ha.

OR even better, someone you hate. Simply unplug!

Only about a third of our power comes from coal. We get more from gas which is cleaner and more efficient.I would rather it was all nuclear and renewables though.
