Saab And Koenigsegg Meet
Saab Aero X and Koenigsegg CCX snapped together in prophetic meeting of the marques
Intriguing images have surfaced in Sweden of what might have been the first meeting - albeit unplanned – of Saab and Koenigsegg models in front of the media.
According to forum posts on saabunited, these photographs of the Koenigsegg CCX and the Saab Aero X concepts took place on an airfield in Sweden in 2006 when German magazines were photographing a drive story on the Aero X in 2006. The CCX appeared out of the blue, when the Koenigsegg team rolled their car out for a quick comparison and to snap some souvenir shots.
Meanwhile, Saab has released a video interview with its managing director Jan Åke Jonsson in which he answers questions about the proposed takeover of his company by Koenigsegg. Although Jonsson doesn’t give away much, he does confirm that the Saab will share technology and get supplies from its current owner GM for a period of time, and maintains he is very confident of a bright future for Saab in the long run.
A story in today’s Financial Times puts a little more meat on the bones. The paper quotes sources close to the deal, saying that GM will put more into the takeover than the Koenigsegg investors will – including donating production tooling for the next-generation 9-5 and a cash lump sum of $150m.
GM will also provide vehicle architecture and engine technology for an unspecified time, the FT says.
k!!! i want 1!!! who'd ever have thought saab's would b cool? always thought they were an old mans car
When can I put my order in?
But hopefully now that might change.
White-stuff playtime in midwinter Kent was the absolute best.
Sad to say the car was wrecked by a nitwit collision specialist.
Now I'm (just a tad) older, another Saab could be good, so long as it ain't a reskinned Vectra.
So this automotive marriage looks hopeful...
What a contrast with the UK Govt which is more likely to provide help to a foreign owned company than a UK one.
Quirkiness
Comfort (possibly involving wood and leather)
A big turbo for amusing mid-range stonk
Some more quirkiness for good measure
Re-skinned vauxhalls or being just another competent but dull eurobox is not enough!
