Caravan Club Splashes Out
Half a million quid promoting itself
Discussion
w***ers the lot of em. A caravan costs between £10 and £30 grand. You could go to the carribean/anywhere in the world that is nice for ten years for that kind of money
What kind of saddo pays all that money just to holiday here, in England, in the p*ssing rain???
Caravans should be banned.Their owners should be shot, and the desire to holiday in a caravan (except abroad) should be dealt with as a prison sentence.....
Not that I'm bothered really.....

So speak those who do not know what they talk of...
I am 26 and am a caravanner. I've done it since I was a kid, but now I am an adult I choose to do it. I do most of my touring in the west coast of Scotland, where the quiet roads, beautiful scenery and generally peaceful surroundings make for more relaxing holidays than traditional sun-seeker packages.
I am afraid that I don't like hotels...I do enough of that with work, and canvas camping is something i can't really live with. Caravanning seems a good middle ground. I don't caravan for cost reasons either.
When driving solo, I probably get more annoyed than anyone by an inconsiderate caravanner, who insists on maintaining his queue of cars for miles and miles, 'cos I know what a bad press it gives the rest of us and, yes, quite a few are old buggers who shouldn't be allowed to ride a bike, yet alone tow a 2 ton caravan.
...but people who have never tried it, however, can **** right off...they have no right to comment without first hand experience ;-)
(BTW, I tow my '00 Abbey Chorus with a 206 GTi, so it's pretty rare that I bother anyone on the road...I'm usually stuck behind other people!)

I do know what I talk of. I have had the misfortune of working in Cornwall for six months and spending hours stuck behind tossers like you who are too tight or too scared to fly to sunshine. For every day of the six months I spent down there it rained. Beautiful place to see, shite to go on Holiday, especially in a two wheeled contraption, designed for a gypsy.

You poor bastard, you have my deepest sympathy!!

Then why on earth do you own one, you hypocrite??

I can comment on what I like you muppet. It's called a forum not a mutual appreciation society. I hate caravanners, If you dont like it, tough. Find a website that caters for saddos who like caravans. Have you tried the samaritans???

Rest assured, you will never, ever find yourself stuck behind me....
Nothing like controversy
I don't like hotels 'cos I don't like living on top of other people. It's nothing to do with not wanting to go abroad (I've just come back from Skiing in France...no caravan there, too bloody cold) or not liking the sun; I just like the peace and quiet of not having hundreds of people sharing your immediate vicinity.
There is *nothing* better than waking up looking over a clean, beautiful beach in Scotland on a sunny morning, with noone else for 10 miles in any direction...and you still have a fridge, oven and decent roof (very important in Scotland!)
Admit it, it doesn't sound so bad and if you have a decent car to tow the thing about, it's very little/no inconvenience to yourself or any other road users. It's pillocks towing 2 ton 'vans with a 1300 Auto Maxi that clog up the roads. Not to mention pensioners, learner drivers, buses...
Each to their own, I say...

Sorry boys (kids?) but I am another caravan user who likes to stop when and where I like and don't need a replacement mum to make my bed and cook my breakfast when I am away from home.
As for being scared to fly, I'll meet you on The Cuillin (Thats some big mountains in Scotland) and see if you can take some real danger instead of frightening some old Doris in Macdonalds car park.
Anyway, with all these superfast cars you seem to have, how come you can get stuck behind a 13mph roadblock?

To be honest, I can see the appeal of holidaying in the UK and I can wholly associate with anerd's desire to have the "peace and quiet of not having hundreds of people sharing your immediate vicinity" ..
BUT
There's no way that it's physically possible to drive at a sensible speed with a caravan on your arse, so whether you've got a Maxi or a 206 or a LandCruiser, YOU ARE STILL IN THE WAY !!!!
We can't see round your caravan to overtake. It wobbles about and looks like it's about to fall over when you go round bends and you can't reverse the bloody things...
Have a static caravan. Put it in place with a helicopter. Rent a cottage. Whatever... just GET YOUR CARAVAN OUT OF THE F***ING WAY !!
