Vanwall Reborn

Another historic marque revived

The once famous name of Vanwall has been revived with a new UK company takingo on the mantle and producing sports cars. Glacier Vandervell Bearings, part of the USA based Dana Corporation, has granted exclusive rights for use of the Vanwall marque to a newly formed, independent company – Vanwall Cars.

Arthur Wolstenholme, founder and Managing Director, has extensive experience in car design and manufacture and since 1984, has designed cars both of the 50’s era and also modern design, state of the art, carbon fibre sports cars.

2004 marks a return after some 40 years of absence for the name Vanwall, which will be carried on future high performance sports and racing cars.

The company will be looking to a return to racing in some form, but details are not yet available. One of the new cars to be hand built will be a replica of the classic single-seat Vanwall, which will be both road legal and suitable for use at track days. Other two-seater, Vanwall inspired, road-going cars are also being planned for future introduction.

It is a considerable responsibility to have guardianship of such a historic and well respected marque ,” commented Arthur Wolsteholme. “The importance of continuing the high performance and quality features of such well respected cars is paramount .”

Wolstenholme has also pledged to continue support for the Ronart W152 and Lightning. Ronart ceased trading last year.

I can't think of another car that had wire front wheels and alloy rears, can anybody else?

I love the Vanwall with its Lotus, Rolls and Norton origins and whilst a tribute would be nice I am very apprehensive about what will be made.

Fingers very firmly crossed, rabbits feet and white heather piled up on top of PC.

From my interpreation of that they have absolutely nothing to do with the original Vanwall, just some guy who has mangaged to buy the right to use the name, is that correct?

If its done well its a good thing but Id rather see the name left where it was rather than make some mediochre sports car in the tradition of a 50 year old single seater
