Given the interest in runs on PH, this may well count as one of the ultimate European runs, Oslo to Portugal via 15 countries in less than 5 days, leading up to the daddy of them all, an attempt at breaking the London to Cape Town record, all for Help for Heroes.

The Max Adventure team, lead by Mac Mackenney, left a Land Rover dealership in Oslo, Norway on Monday at 1800 to drive virtually non-stop to Portugal to arrive by 1500 on Friday this week. They are recreating a historic drive by Stirling Moss as part of their ‘warm-up’ training for the 2010 London to Cape Town record attempt.

Back in December 1952, at the same time as George Hinchliffe was battling his way across Africa to establish yet another new record for London to Cape Town, Stirling and three co-drivers left Oslo, Norway in an attempt to visit 15 countries in 5 days before arriving in Portugal driving a Humber Super Snipe, top speed 91mph! Stirling and his 1952 team completed the 3,280 mile journey 89 hours and 59 minutes in under four days - at an average speed of 37mph!

The modern team’s challenge will be huge, even though they will be using modern vehicles, fitted with much more economical engines allowing greater fuel ranges. Speed limits will hinder their progress and the amount of traffic on the roads is probably ten-times that of 50 years ago.

Should you happen to see a White Landrover Discovery and Defender on the roads of Europe, they are currently heading towards Switzerland having ticked off 7 countries so far, give them a wave and some support.

You can follow their progress via a live updated Google map route and blogs click http://www.maxadventure.co.uk/OTL_Map
