Announced on the news here today that the Netherlands are to introduce a tax on driving per km. don't know anymore details yet...
Ok it has been past by Den Haag (the Haig) to come into force in 2011 and it will be for cars and trucks, it has also been past for Belgium but only for comercial vehicles, cars are for the moment exempt.

Link to info ... in Dutch...
http://www.hbvl.be/nieuws/buitenland/aid878794/ned...

looks like they want all Dutch cars to have a GPS tracker fitted before 2011 and they will be introducing measures to "tax" forigen cars per km by 2018.
I guess we can look forward to this being rolled out accross the rest of the EU in the near future

And of course the govenment will have details on every journey you make and your speed = automated speeding tickets ahoy.

Will we get it too? Quite probably unless people complain, which we probably won't.

Reasons for: the environment and safety. You can't be against them can you?

Thing is - will it mean retrospecticly fitting GPS devices to 20+ million cars?

However, will start worrying when I see it working effectively in Holland.

We will get it in years to come & CO2 will be the excuse. You read it here first.

Nothing new here.

This is part of the Europe-wide plan to partly pay for the Galileo satellite system.

Can't see Brussels allowing an opt out for any country.

I've mentioned this to loads of our Euro cousins for years, none of whom knew anything about it. They thought I was making it up.

Another stitch up by the Union of European Socialist Republics.

The sooner we leave, the better.

nono

The sooner we all decimate bureaucracy, domestic and euro, the better.

A border free Europe with a common currency would be a great thing if everywhere defaulted to the least regulated.

If it's legal in one member, it should be legal in all...

...ohh, when I say decimate, I don't mean dispatch one in ten, I mean keep one in ten. smile

I am in total agreement but would like to point out that these guys have no reputaion worth worrying about and they don't seem to care.
