After watching the "Megafactories" program on how the Porsche 911 is built am I glad that i don't have one on order. For such a expensive car it looks as well put together as a KIA.

The body welded across it's with in two places "AGGGG".

What are your opinions???

I like a good few others have done the Porsche factory tour. In my case it was in 2001. By contrast I have also toured Aston Martin and Rolls/Bentley (both in 1972). Porsche is not a hand craft kind of place. The manpower are a surly bunch who repetitively bolt things in place. They don't seem to enjoy it much either. You will also be aware that a large percentage of Boxsters were subcontracted to Valmet and built in Finland, to identical standards.

On the plus side, however, and it is a big plus side, everything is regimented to perfection. I have the impression that the engineering design (which you don't see) is where all the thinking happens, and then the bods just do it. People work like robots and the robots work. All the materials are top quality - the body panels for example are sourced from BMW. Everything is done right. A consistent high standard is turned out, and that, boys, is what constitutes quality. Somewhere less like Aston Martin Lagonda in Newport Pagnell is hard to imagine.

The point is, they turn out the product. I don't know how many production facilities you know, but they are not like Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory and maybe shouldn't be expected to be.
