Channel 5's new motoring programme "5th
Gear" launches at 20:00 this Monday.

It is hosted by ex Top Gear presenters Quentin Wilson, Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Adrian Simpson.

The programme is usefully repeated at 19:00 on Tuesday.

The first programme includes a feature on speed cameras, with some disturbing figures.

Didn't see Clarkson in it. Thought it was OK though- loved the way that bloked pulled the C3 to bits, good to see the legendary Citroen build quality lives on

Could this be the media break we need to start the pendulum swinging the other way? It looked very much to me that QW was a bit anti speed camera and the name and shame session just stopped short of accusing Essex of being theiving b@stards.

If we bombard the "have your say section" on the website with demands for more information and a slot for the ABD every week (Not bloody MMC though cos he is too bloody resonable) then maybe we could start to turn the tide of madness threatening to suffocate us all. Any thoughts Guys?

Lets hope that this is a start of real reporting... especially the "rants" about gatsos were good. Pinpointing which counties are especially rabid was very good as well as the comments about Gatsos being OK outside schools but not on "open" roads.....
BUT their website is SHITE!!!silly musak which can't be switched off, no comments can be posted etc etc etc Couldn't expect any more when their initial site has a bright pink background!!!!
rant over

I think there's a widget to switch off the music at the top of the page or something...

I thought it was a good effort all round.. that GTiR was mental

They seemed much less worried about PC shite than on the BBC which is good news..

WRT Gatsos, hopefully this will be the first step in showing the numpty masses quite to what extent the country's being taken over by grey electronic policemen that can't catch anything but a speeder...

And, those more activistically inclined get some useful facts - such as where they all are for that firebombing campaign

Top work to Channel 5 I reckon for a well rounded car show that is aimed at the motorist rather than the green party.

Nice to see that the sports/exotic car review, family car review and feature format they have been using for Top Gear working well on 5th Gear and of course the lovely VBH, looking, er, well, lovely!

Not sure about the Max P Saxo's on the next episode mind!

Matt.

One thing that does come to mind, have these guys been reading PH???? Seems there are a lot of similarities to our topics, saddoes in saxos, Miss wassername VBH, real cars and tuned jap boxes as well as gatsohate! Too many coincidences. So 5th gear if youre reading this... keep it up but forget the maxpower(?) mob!!!

Don't forget the georgous VBH was one of the original startup crew for MaxPower mag!!

I just wish I could get this program here, I rely on PH for car input.

This is more like it. A program about cars for people who... like cars, and not mindless greeny pinkos! What a wacky idea.

I'll be interesting to see what the BBC come up with. JC is going to have a bit of a fight in his hands. Hopefully they won't schedule them at the same time, which is just the sort of smallminded thing they would do.

You may find that your VCR will receive C5 while your TV will not. Try tuning in the VCR directly. That's the way most of the rest of the country has to receive it.

Not that you will be needing it for anything else, it is the first time I have ever felt to need to tune in to C5.

I liked it for at least the reason that they didn't put backing music on when Tiff was doing his Lambo review - we would hear the engine! I looked at the Jason Plato review straight after and it wasn't as good - shorter, less tail out madness (thanks Tiff!), and more music. Good start!

Thanks for the suggestion but C5 doesn't actually broadcast down here at all. Not the right demographics apparently. And this is the first time I've ever found anything on it I've wanted to watch!

Why do all you lot take the piss out of max power magazine? It is getting a bit boring listening to all the old people going on about 'max power this' and 'max power that'

do you realise there is a MASSIVE industry that has developed and a lot of the major manufactures sometimes take ideas from what they might of seen.

I do agree about some things people say about the nova/saxo/bolt on boys. i.e driving stupidly on roads while choking their 1.0 engines but, as with everthing else, they are just a small minority.

one final point for all the 'older generation' what were the things YOU used to do to YOUR cars?

Sorry to have gone on but it was getting to me

On the whole Umar there is nothing wrong with the "max power" boys IMO. Most of them give me the thumbs up and come and speak to me when they see the TVR.
Like any big group, who are into something in a big way there is always a minority of twats who spoil it for everyone.
The ones that p*ss me off are the ones who try to race me in their XR3's and RS Turbos One such idiot tried last week to race me in his RS Turbo thing and seemed mighty pissed off when I pulled over and let him past. If I'm going to lose my licence it's going to be duelling with an Aston, Ferrari or Porker, not some Nova with a Baked bean can stuck on the exhaust pipe and some ridiculous red panty pads stuck on the seat belts......
