Hi,

Need advice on whether to buy a BMW 530D/535D M Sport or Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro Le Mans. Like both just unable to decide?

Looking for 2 to 3 year old; upto 30K Mileage
Usage - 400 miles per weekm A3/town

Any input or advice would be useful.

Cheers

Have you driven both yet? If not, get out and test drive each.

Was certainly the deciding factor for me when I bought my current car.

yes, liked both for slightly different reasons, the mistake made was driving both twice i think, and now can't make my mind up. BMW handles better I feel, but the Audi just feels more solid. Thanks for your feedback.

I was debating too and ended up with the Audi. The BMW is a better drive, so is the Mercedes and undoubtedly so is the Jaguar. I couldn't bring myself to have a RWD car as my only car as the inlaws live on top of a hill and getting there in winter can be interesting.

Having said that, if I had a Discovery in the garage, I'd buy
1. Jaguar
2. Mercedes
2. BMW
4. Audi

This is Pistonheads.

The Audi is dull and FWD, or Quattro.

The BMW is RWD.

The BMW therefore wins.

I went for the audi, but have a tvr for 'fun', otherwise I'd have gone for either a BMW, or a legacy gy-b (prob a bit too old for the OP)

I would prefer an E60 5 series to the Audi, depends on your driving preferences aswell, RWD is fun smile I think the quattro understeers and is FWD biased. Correct me if i'm wrong.

None !. go for VXR8 you will get 25-30mpg on a run.....the Germans bombed our chippy tankhehe . Plus there cars are drastically overrated..the best PR and Marketing staff in the world...wool eyes over.
Particularly don't like, look at me I am clever and sensible, doing all right for myself....or is it look at me I can't think for myself / Out of the box.
Look at the paint issue with new BWM's shocking...wife was on the management team for a dealer that had 9 different brands and the worst for reliability and warranty claims was Audi. Yet the most expensive...tumbleweed

I suspect the VXR8 is not good in snow, if it's anything like a Monaro.

You forgot to add that BMW needs to be mapped and have winter tyres fitted....

Not done much driving in 5 series, but wife's had a few 3's and they handle well.

I did own an A6 3.0tdi quattro, Le Mans, Avant, etc. etc. for about 6 months and, well, what does 6 months from brand new tell you?

To try and give a balanced view; the Audi interior is a (subjectively) nicer place to be, but the ride and seating seems pretty wooden. BMW dashes are a little dull and functional by comparison, but a not unpleasant. IMHO BMW sports seats are way more confortable than Audi's on a longer run.

I think the BMW diesels are far, far superior; 4 or 6 cyl. The Audi 3.0 is pretty agricultural (even though it's a V6) and is not a patch on the JLR diesel in my Disco. The BMW sixes on the other hand are on a par - sublime.

FWIW, with those silly wide, low-pro tyres, I doubt if the Audi -even quattro - would be much cop in the snow once it's reasonably deep.

Do you like cars? If so it is a BMW
Do you like controlled damping and steering feel? If so it is a BMW
Do you like the fashionable brand of the moment? If so, it is the Audi
Do you like bling? Then get the Audi with those Ripspeed lights.

Personally, I'd go for........

...an XF.
