First spy pic of the new US only Beetle shows it's more true to the original than the fat and inflated last iteration.

Looks like they took the current Beetle and grafted on the rear of a crossfire.

looks like they took the previous Beetle and dropped a piano on it.

Gawd, not pretty is it?

Is it going to be called a "new new" beetle then?

I quite like that, compared to the current model.

2.5 Turbo 5-pot and 4WD would be nice.

I think I detect a touch of PT Cruiser too maybe?

Is it my imagination or are the rear wheels slightly bigger than the fronts?

Judging by the pictures, it's smaller and tighter?

My sister has a new beetle and its a pretty decent car with a lot of neat touches inside.

Autocar last week said it wasn't US only, and that this car has bodywork cladding from the current Beetle so it won't necessarily look much like this one.

Looks much better than the previous version, but is there still a nice vase on the dashboard?

The proportions look very strange and I really hope that come production time VW fit some wheels that fit the car, those rears look lost in the overly large rear arches.

But then that looked like a jelly on wheels.
