Underage Driving
Discussion
Ok. Im 15 and i have a car which i intend to keep running until i am 17 but i dont really fancy driving on the public roads and risk getting caught and lose my licence before i get it. I hear there are places in which you can pay for storage and access to private land for driving and garage equipment. Can anyone please let me know if they know of any in the Nottingham area
It seems a convenient way to drive legally and teach yourself driving skills at the same time.
It seems a convenient way to drive legally and teach yourself driving skills at the same time. I'll probably get flamed by the bubble-wrap police for this, but I drove on the roads when I was 15, with my dad in the car!
I'd been driving on private land and beaches from being old enough to sit on his lap and handle the steering.
By the time I was 15, he used to take me to private industrial estates, where I could drive around and practice general car control. The first time he lead me by my nose back to the road and told me to drive home, I was crapping my pants. The second time, I was loving it.
Amongst others, I drove his Audi 80, his Rover P6 V8 and the VW Santana that I later owned. Sadly I never had the pleasure of his Fiat 132 Mirafiora.
All that said though, the parents went away for a weekend while I had my provisional license. I had strict orders not to take my car out. Of course I did, and I drove about 300 miles, had a couple of scary moments and convinced several mates that I was barking mad.
The old man clocked the mileage that I'd put on the car while he was away, bollocked me in the most profoundly voilent manner and removed my driving privileges for an indefinite period (turned out to be about 2 months). He very nearly sold the car. He'd got as far as cancelling the insurance and locking my licence away.
Well what the hell did he expect me to do?
Ah - the impetuousness of youth ..
