Mosler 0-100-0

Shorty takes the yellow monster to Bruntingthorpe

Autocar were up at Bruntingthorpe yesterday for their 0-100-0mph challenge. The annual test pits many of today's supercars against the clock and against each other to see how quickly they can accelerate and then brake.

One of the cars present was a road going Mosler MT900. The car is familiar to many thanks to Rollcentre team entering one in the British GT Championship, along with Balfe Motorsport. Twenty-five road going cars are currently being assembled in the UK by Breckland Technology in Norfolk.

Rollcentre's boss Martin Short had a go at the challenge himself, setting a very credible 11.9 seconds to reach 100mph from standstill and brake back to zero again.

The V8 powered coupe, complete with sequential gearbox managed to beat the time of the Caterham Superlight R500 although some tweaks to the rev limiter on that later gained them a fraction of a second, enough to slip under the Mosler's time.

Shorty also managed to find time to wind the MT900 up to 178mph!

Look out for the full article in a forthcoming issue of Autocar.

I bet that is pretty much the only view of that car you will see on the road, as it disappears into the distance. Unless it stops, then you might be rather closer than you wanted.

I want one. Now. 0-100-0 in 11.9s is bloody quick for something that size, and it's not insanely powerful is it? About 450bhp?

all depends I suppose, if it has a track orientated setup then it may not be too quick on the road. Still very respectable time for any standard car.

You could hardly call a Mosler a 'standard car' though. I welcome the change away from the R500's, though. It makes us people with similar weighing cars to the Mosler think we're in with a fighting chance of the title Although with those times, driver skill is everything and a burnt out clutch is a distinct possibility.

Or how about one of these ?

Similar spec, only it has from 535bhp and from £40k upwards. Much better value for money, although I am slightly biased

0-100-0 will appear in our April 27th issue. Look out also for an appearance from the awesome yellowbird RUF CTR of AdamT's family. It managed a 0-200-0 time, and the 1/4 mile long skidmark will be visible at Bruntingthorpe for some time to come...

How about a REALISTIC test.

Heathrow to Stansted, via Central London.

....nice to see that Adam is letting it loose in it's natural habitat and scaring off some of the other assembled wildlife!!

Yep. Little bit of everything actually - hyabusa engined mini to DB9, and most stuff inbetween (and beyond, come to think of it!). I'm sitting here nursing a badly sunburned baldie head, but I don't care - I'm still smiling at all the cars we've been playing around in. You're going to love it.

LOL! But that's _NO_ fun at all! (well, not if you want to keep your license!)

Wondered when the 0-100-0 copy of Autocar was coming out again, but I haven't missed it for 3 years now, so looking forward to this one!
Sounds like there are lots of bits and bobs this year!

So does that Mosler have only 425 bhp/tonne?
Must be slick tyres and a race setup that give it the traction to use it all and get that time!

Wasn't an Ultima in last years test against the Lambo and Zonda, and lost through bad brakes... got to 100mph fast indeed, but getting back proved tough eek!

Wait a few months and GTRCLIVE's Hayabusa turbo'd mini will be ready weighing around 700kgs and with a 350 hp motor from Holeshot Racing.

I have a project which should yield 1150 hp per tonne in the offing, so watch this space
