Which one will go first?

Looking at the BMW 1 series I thought "Loads of people will buy that rather than one of the front drive alternatives."
I'm not suggesting that the 1 on its own will make much difference but prestige makes are getting stronger at the expense of non prestige makes. How long before one of the lesser names bites the dust. Recently there was speculation about FIAT, Ford, Vauxhall and SAAB.
So how will it all pan out? Will the prestige bubble burst when people realise that in everyday terms an ordinary car is good enough? Or will BMW et al clean up with the current mass market FWD makes sinking forever?
