Robotic Bollards

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3666989.stm

Robotic bollards that can quickly move across a carriageway to close off lanes have been developed by US engineers.
Each 130cm-high robot takes the form of a bright red barrel which sits atop a three-wheeled motorised base.
A group of the bollards can be directed into position with a laptop and a main control unit equipped with a satellite navigation system for accuracy.
It's a pretty simple idea," Assistant Professor Farritor, from the university's Walter Scott Engineering Center, told BBC News. "They can self-deploy and self-retrieve, and remove workers from the dangerous job of putting out these safety devices.

Any thoughts on this one guys ?

What will all those guys in yellow vests do for the first 10 weeks at each roadworks site now then? They might actually have to do some work...

And how many students are going to be well chuffed with a traffic cone that walks around by itself? They'll be appearing in student dorms all across the world...

They used to have a large moving, well trundling, bollard on Hammersmith Bridge that would move to change lanes as part of a tidal flow traffic system.

I never trusted it and made sure I never stopped along side it.

How long before someone figures out how to tap into and control them then?

What a load of crap! Robotic bollards! Knowing our government, there'll be a hidden speed camera, a road safety officer and a traffic warden crammed inside of them, waiting to nick anyone who looks as if they are even remotely going fast(but that's a different argument)

Not quite the future...

I wonder if they will move fast enough to set off seed cameras? Could be a new defence here...
