the EU has decided to pass a law stating that discriminating based on gender involving car insurance is going to be illegal from 2012.

Apparrantly the blokes trying to ger car insurance will see no decrease in their premiums, just wondering what other PHers thought about this.

Women wanted equality now they have got it, in my experiance two daughters who learned to drive at 17 and passed tests young women can be just as dangerous as young men

Its yet another load of shcensoredt from the EU, although i have a laugh and a joke about 'women drivers' they are statistically far less likely to have an accident or claim on their insurance. If it was the other way round, would males be happy paying more because females were a higher risk? I dont think so...
All in all, not a fair ruling, just more bureaucracy rolleyes

The fact that there are statistics on this is irrelevant. We're consistently handed counter-intuitive legislation regarding discrimination, which more often than not ignores the fact that differences between people make them just that - different.

One insurance company has told me it has seen statistics that would (if legal) let them charge more depending on your ethnicity, but of course our discrimination laws make this unfeasible. The same is true of sex - it's just insurance companies have for some reason been able to get away with it until now.

I think this was really short sighted.

We all have sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends.

We just fked ourselves in the ass just to make a point. The guy that brought the case forward needs to be shot. fking cretin.

If women have to pay the same as men (due to anti-discrimination laws), when statistics gathered over many years(which, incidentally, are used to assess the RISK, which is what insurance is all about) prove that women are lower risk - then surely your age, your post code, your make and model of car, and even your driving record affecting your premium would also be a case of discrimination ??

Now there's a case worth persuing...

end of the day insurance can charge what they like as we have to have it!

my van insurance has gone up £400 this year, with an extra years no claims and no points, accidents etc, explain that one out.

and also my insurance company kindly charged me £80 for changing the vehicle on my policy as the original van broke down, same van, same sign writing but 3 years older, work that one out!

I mistakenly scratched someone's car while parking which is about $800 estimate. Do you reccomend I inform my insurance or I pay form my pocket. How will it affect my premium.
