Voicemap

Simple solution for those without Sat Nav

A new product that delivers all the convenience and safety aspects of satellite navigation, using only a conventional hands-free mobile phone, is now being offered by a Suffolk-based company.

The new service from Voicemap enables drivers who become lost in an unfamiliar area to be guided to their destination, turn by turn, without the installation of any additional equipment in the vehicle, and with the added reassurance of personal assistance.

A call to Voicemap’s UK-based call centre establishes the driver’s location using the signal emitted by their mobile. This is then used by Voicemap to guide the driver back on course.

With 150 staff waiting to take calls from anywhere in the UK, all calls are answered without using any form of automation, a welcome feature for the lost and frustrated motorist.

The service also includes up to the minute traffic information and re-routing should the client be delayed by congestion.

The service is provided as a membership subscription starting at £9.95 per year. They've avoided premium rate lines to address concerns about rushing to terminate the call quickly!

print off some directions before you set off from one of the free websites and also have a map and you can't go far wrong.

Not always foolproof. Certainly not Tedproof.

Well thanks for the feedback, and support Chris and Ted.

Does anyone have any relevant points? We are considerably cheaper than Sat Nav, and a whole lot more personal. Not really targetted at the likes of PHers more the other half's.

I was going to offer the service free to PHers once these fuel protests start.

If it only costs £9.99 a year, and the calls are on a landline then I am all for it

(Landlines are free from mob, local numbers/0845 cost silly pence per min)

edited - O2 charge 20pence a minute to call a lo-call number. Sorry but I won't use the service at £2.95 a month plus a significant call charge

Thanks again for the feedback. The 0870 number is just the office, the helpline is a short code number and is 1-3p dependent on network.

Really not happy with the network providers charging a fortune to call these numbers, and will change away from the 0870 altogether I think.
