After reading the article about the new 997, I was quite unhappy about the way Porsche have designed this "new car". I think that the looks are same old 911, which just doesn't interest me anymore.

How should Porsche continue with its' next 911s?
Should they be different, or should Porsche continue cloning old models?

Evoloution or Revoloution?

Looks perfectly fine to me. Every panel on the new car is different, except the roof. they've got no reason to change the 911 radically when it's selling so strongly and making them huge piles of money. Most petrolheads aspire to own a 911 at some point (I do at any rate), and radically departing from its looks or its rear engined, 6 cylinder layout may damage the reputation the car has. Leave it alone IMHO

I think it looks great and Im glad to see the fine tradition of the 911 continuing and yet still improving

I think Richard Hammond will be on here telling us how great the Porsche 911 is shortly. I was laughing my head off at him when Paul McKenna hypnotised him. Shame I missed the rest of the programme though. Forgot it was on.

I think Porsche should return to the curvacious 911 look of the 964 Turbo with or without the rear spoiler to differeniate between Carerra & Turbo, but make everything mega stiff, incredibly light (less than a tonne) and that's it - we'll be in love.

I will be buying a 911 a some point. It's THE car for people like us to own and master. The very fact its engine is in the boot is what makes it the ultimate challenge in mastering its handling at and beyond its limits.

But I doubt Porsche will ever make such a car due to the worlds crash test requirements. So, I will buy an old 3.2, strip it out, get a rally style welded cage in and I'll have a perfect 911, for a bargain too.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to own one of the 20 SCRSs that were built in 1984. Lightweight, short gears and a mechanically injected engine...perfect Porsche 911!

The 911 should evolve but not become retro. I think the 997 looks good but not much better than my 996.
If you take the VW Golf as an example. Had VW missed out every other incarnation they would have made greater impact/progress (and more sales ?). Like Porsche though they are too concerned at alienating their customers but they need to be a bit bolder. There are too many good looking "super" cars out there now.
