Peugeot Diesels
Discussion
I'm no expert on engines but if your concerned about the condition of the engine do a compression test. Once you know how to do it it's quite easy and can tell you a lot.
On the otherhand assuming it's been serviced regularly and not abused too much i'd have only worried if it had 150,000 on the clock. Diesels last longer than petrols generally.

Doesn't most engine wear generally occur when cold? A lot of miles on a newish car should mean long runs, so as long as the oil changes have been done and the car hasn't been abused - I wouldn't see a problem.
A long time ago my dad reckoned the engine on his 2.3D Sierra (think these were French?) was starting to wear out. This was at 250,000 miles though!

I learned to drive on a Peugeot 106 Diesel which was one year old but 80k on the clock as it had been used by a courier. had to replace the handbrake and break pads after a few months but that aside had no major issues and 7 years on it's still going strong as my sister now drives it.
Depends which engine you are looking at. Turbo or non-turbo? Think the 206 comes with either a 1.4 or 1.9 turbo diesel or a non-turbo 1.9.
Non-turbo will last longer but either way 77k isn't a lot of mileage for that sort of car.
I run a 306 1.9 non-turbo - its steady (insert very slow) but reliable and cheap to run - its covered 90k miles and since i got it at 20k i haven't had to put any oil in it between services - so i'm guessing its still running alright.
