Cerbera Died - Ideas???
Discussion
My dad came over to Essex last Thursday to meet me - picked me up from work and drove me the mile home. 2/3 of the way it seemed to lose power no and could not accelerate any further. Just before the house it died and wouldn't restart. We were going away to Italy and were in a rush so didn't try the car until Wednesday night - turns over but nothing.
He got recovered but yesterdat evening checked all of the fuses and there is also a spark and fuel is getting to the rail, and there is power to the injectors. When I get back tonight I'll have check to see that the injectors are operating but can anybody think of anything else it may be?
On his journey from Lincs he said it didn't seem quite as crisp as normal in the lower rpm range and he thought it maybe used more fuel.
Car is a 4.5L AJP 1996.
Any ideas appreciated !

Thanks for the suggestions !
Can't be coil as we're still getting a spark. Couldn't find my lead for the laptop to check the diagnostics unfortunately. However after cranking the plug is dry. That's as far as I've got.... my dad did say that it got water in it a couple of months back from a leak he has since fixed but that one of the boxes on the back parcel shelf was clicking furiously so may have damaged/fried it? So it's got spark but doesn't look like fuel from the injectors so I don't think it can be crank/cam timing sensor (don't know what it is on Cerbs).
Any further ideas? - was going to have a look tomorrow if I get time.
Thanks again for any possible suggestions.

Hello again all,
Update on this, not had much time due to organising bits for my wedding next weekend.
Eventually hooked-up the laptop last weekend but could not connect as usual. Thought it may be a lead issue so fabbed myself a new lead and tried again today - again no connection to the ECU.
Checked the newer s/w also but still no joy.
Ideas anyone please????

Right, update: Been busy getting married and subsequent honeymoon so this has been left for a while. Managed to communicate with ECU by changing compatability options on the EXE file properties.
Lots of fault codes as seen here:

Throttle pots OK, temps all looked realistic, fuel pump primes etc.
Reset those and the adpatives and now with fully charged battery managed to start the engine. It wouldn't start on teh first couple of cranks without throttle (first attempt) or with some judicious throttle prods (attempt 2). The third time I gave a very small but constant throttle opening and the engine fired into life. Unfortunately my ham fists meant I missed the recording o fthe start but got a recording of the running. Straight away it looked & sounded like it was running on one bank. Large oscillations from Lambda 1, Lambda 2 is zero and hence Adapive 2 very high.

Does anybody have any thoughts on next steps??
Cheers,
Rob

Congratulations on the wedding, and getting it running.
Cheers !OK, latest update: Stuck a noid light on the injectors to see if they were all firing - it seems that one bank is firing the injectors and one bank is not.
Does anybody have a clue about this now??? Wiring fault? Faulty PCM? Any other possible causes?
Cheers,
Rob
Did the logged faults return when you ran it?
From what I recall (without access to wiring diagrams at work) the temperature sensors and barometric pressure sensor are all on the same bit of wiring loom (don't take this as gospel though). Maybe a harness plug or ECU water ingress or the main ECU connector.

Just gathering wiring daiagrams at the moment. No logged faults yet but I didn't want to run it for very long as I was worried about washing the bores - in hindsight that's obviously not a problem :-) Do they use bucket-filling/emptying for fault diagnosis? From what I recall (without access to wiring diagrams at work) the temperature sensors and barometric pressure sensor are all on the same bit of wiring loom (don't take this as gospel though). Starting to think wiring fault / water ingress etc. is a possibility. Mind you it was dry weather when it happened so maybe not. Are there any loom connectors between engine and PCM?
