Clevor Trevor - Anti sqeal Brake Shims

Has any body fitted these to early front calipers and if so do I need to use copper slip between the shim and the piston bearing in mind the shim is non-metallic?

I found these very effective. You don't want to use copperslip as well though, the surface of the shim is made of a slightly soft plastic stuff that the piston presses into slightly. I suspect that it is this that makes them so effective. Just clean the backs of the pads well with IPA and stick them on.

One more question. They are supplying 6 off pads. I guess I have to cut them to get them to fit as 6 into 4 doesn't go. Am I correct?

Yes - one and a half shims on each pad.

I always paint the back of the pads with hi-temp silicon (liquid gasket) before fitting the shims - seems to work pretty well (although I haven't tried it without).

The shims I had are self adhesive. I wouldn't have thought that liquid gasket would help them stick??

I had nightmares with mine when I first got it! Changed to different pads, loads of copper grease etc... SQUEEK!
Fitted the shims and not had a problem since!

I have two issues which I hope the shims will cure:

1) When hot I get an occasional squeal from either side when no brake pressure applied. The squeal disappears as soon as I touch the pedal

2) Under heavy braking the brakes squeal at the front.

When I took the old pads out I carefully peeled off the metal shims off the old pads and I fitted them to the new Mintex pads with RTV silicone

I also noticed one of the pistons on the NS caliper had seized. However, with the help of a strip of wood I managed to free it up sufficiently for me to be happy.

I have tried RTV on the back of the shim, copperslip etc but the results are the same.

The fact that the noise is jumping from one side to the other is leading to me thinking it may be due to the uneven application of the old shims on to the new pads (I did bend them to remove them) rather than the previously seized piston.
