Evening all,

So jumped in the Cerb earlier and no fuel pump - a quick tap on the case and it ran for a minute or two and then died. Another tap and it sat there happy for about 15 minutes before I turned it off.

The connections look pretty cruddy so will clean them up in case it's a duff electrical contact, but is this the first signs of pump failure?

Definitely try cleaning the contacts before changing the pump.

If the contacts are poor they can cause the pump (or indeed any other component) to act up.

Arse.

After giving things a good clean it's still doing it from time to time.

New pump ordered, could be a fun job as the nuts on the mounting for the pump don't look to be in great shape...

Had the same problem on my old MG... Solution... Open drivers door and lean under the car and wack the fuel pump :-) new pump required.

The Immobilizer will probably be on the way out, it failed on mine. You will have to run a bypass.
The Ignition still gets cut so it cant be driven away.
The wires are behind the rear seats.

99.99% certain it's the pump, I can hear the relays clicking on an off when priming before start-up. A quick tap and it springs back into life.

New pump arrived today so will fit over the weekend.

Well that was an odd one!

So new pump arrived, tried the old one to be sure and nothing. Quick tap and back into life again.

A couple of hours cleaning up at mounting points and re-fitting and the new pump was on.

But nothing, nothing at all, not even with a tap.

I could still hear the relays clicking on and off to prime the pump but no power to the connections. Pouring over the wiring diagrams and hunting through the car revealed little.

Out of desperation I pressed the intertia switch and hey presto all was well again! Odd in that there was no MIL light, I wonder it was just a bad contact and tapping the old pump was enough to make good.

can anyone tell me which switch is the inertia switch? .....maybe a silly question...

tried www.translate.google.nl to see what a inertia switch does.

It's above the fuel tank screwed to the rear bulkhead on the left hand side. Three wires going into it.
