My headlights are still not working. Just to recap,

The switch is working, I've got 12V at pin B5 (Blue/Red) for the dip beam signal at the dip/beam box in the boot.

The dip/beam box in the boot is working, I've got 12V out from pin A6 (red/yellow) Dip Beam drive.

I've got no voltage to the headlamp bulb.

So, somewhere inbetween the black box in the boot and the headlamps, there must be another black box which changes the red/yellow dip beam drive cable into the two individual blue/red cables at the bulbs.

I've been told it's the small unmarked box to the right of the tank in the boot, but the coloured cables do not match those of the cables coming out of the dip beam drive and the headlamps.

Does anyone know where my missing box is?

Edited to add - It's a 97 4.2 if it makes any difference. Also, the sidelights work and the main beam work, just not the dipped beam.

My lights box is second in from the left on the back shelf. The dim/dip box is furthest to the right (or would be if I actually had one )

I have to replace one of the connectors to my lights box a couple of months back, as it had burnt out and the headlights stoppped working.

When I had a similar problem, I had full beam and side lights, it was just dipped beam
that came and went and... eventually died.

The light control box was changed by Offords for £70.00 + VAT and all was well.

I have definately not got another box on the tank in the boot.

From left to right I've got - Ignition module, Hazard warning light controller, Dim/Dip controller, Door opening box and finally an unmarked box which doesn't match up for the wires.

The dim/Dip controller is working fine.

You need a new dip/main been box that is located above the fuel tank. Connectors are uindersized and consequently burn out. Also wires are too small for amperage.

Byff, there is another headlight box and it is unmarked appart from a partno label. On mine it was attached to the very back of the right hand side boot sidewall (not on the shelf). Ive had some electrical problems lately which is how I found it. I asked HHC what it was. I opened it and it has very little in it. Looked like two power transistors using the side wall of the box as a heatsink.

Mine has six individual connectors (spade type) unnumbered or marked. Some of mine had corroded so I cleaned them while searching for the more serious iginition fault I had. I've just had a look and I have 4 wires which match up to the dim dip colours

This is on a 98 4.2 BTW
on the unmarked box matching up to dim/dip
blue/yellow
red/black
green
black

on the umarked box not matching dim/dip
red/white
red (heavier cable than others)

Sorry I haven't got a digi cam yet so can't post piccies.

Hope that helps

Neil

I've cracked the problem.

Took the car to HexhamHC - he had a rumage around in the boot and pulled out my missing black box from behind the petrol tank.

Bloody thing had dropped outta sight into the dark recesses so I couldn't find it

Burned connector block, so a little bit of electrikery required and I'm sure it'l be ok again.
