4.5 Airbox repair

Anyone repaired or replaced the air box backing plate for the induction hoses ? Looks like the RHS airbox has had some over enthusiastic garage tech tighten up the clips for the hoses and cracked/damaged 3 of the 4 outlets.

Can you get replacement backing plates?? are there any good ways to repair these...???

If you are talking about the the four pipes that come out the box I'm sure someone on here used some exhaust pipe cut down and slotted inside the pipes sorted it.

I gather you can (or could) but at a tidy price....how they fit I don't know.

I repaired mine....first take a hot air gun on medium setting to soften them....gently push back into a roundish shape.

Then get some fiberglass mat or as I did a roll, and cut inch wide strips to line inside of each spout, mix resin and off you go. I thought the resin would run down if I tried to do a whole 360 deg loop at a time, so I did in half circles if you follow, then turned the box over and did the other half the next day.

I thought 1 layer not strong enough so repeated the whole exercise then polished off excess resin lumps and stray fibers....thoroughly wash out and leave to dry....job done.

I've got two of these as I have the Act ones, they are pretty easy to fix but if you get stuck I won't be using them.

How did you get on? One of mine is knackered and so I need at least 1 replacement backing plate :-(

In fact I really need both back plates....Calling Nickccc!!! YHM

Actually ended up using Nicks plates to replace my old ones...took a little fettling to fit and to align the fixing holes but jobs a gooden now.

Think I could have repaired my old ones but to be honest the finished job wouldn't have been pretty...
