Failed emission test

While searching for the reason I found cleverly emptied cats by the previous owner... neither the dealer where I bought it, nor myself did notice from underneath, since the cats were opened from the top and welded properly back together. Interesting that the car was not any noisier as compared to other Cerbs though.

Anyway, now looking for a pair of cats for my 1999 AJP 4.2 ...so I hope one of you guys with them de-catted versions are willing to sell? Alternatively I have been looking into these: http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/TVR_Cerbera_Cata...

Are they of any worth (i.e. lasting longer than only for the way to the 1st MOT)?

Could you try one of the TVR breakers? TVR Dean for example often advertise CATs albeit you need to be on your toes when buying 2nd hand.

I had a similar situation and bought a pair from the website you mentioned. The service was great, they arrived the next day but close inspection showed them not to be identical. The did fit (my local kwik-fit charged me £50 and did a good job) although the bellmouths were a little bashed and the car passed its emmission test this morning so no complaints. I have no idea how long they will last, but I will probably put the decat pipes back on. They are much cheaper than anywhere else I came accross.

I bought a set of cheapy 400-cell ones off ebay and used them just for the NCT test (or equivalent of the MOT) and it passed on emissions with no problems.

Once it passed I put back on (in my case) the de-cats.
