Bargain or Nightmare

I love the sellers optimistic perspective:-
-> I dont know what year the car is
-> The mileage is 100% genuine (how can you know that when the car has had previous owners AND the speedo doesnt work properly per the advert!)
-> How do you know it hasnt had any accidents?
-> Just a couple of weekends to sort

But it could be a bargain if it can all be sorted for a couple of grand.

That car looks familiar, i can't be sure but if the current owner has had it less then 8 or 9 months i'm pretty sure i know it.

If the chassis is not rotten and the engine is not £%$ed it could well be a bargain for anyone handy with a set of spanners.

Having had a quick read....the car looks like it sold on ebay for £7.5K a couple of months ago? Now its a grand cheaper. The ebay ad seems to suggest it hasnt been serviced for a few years.....

I know the seller - he has had a number of Cerbs including some of the press cars as well as 3 Sags including the press car Mr Blue.

He bought it to put a LS in it but does not have time at the moment. He is a very honest chap, it is what it is and it will be described perfectly.

Anyway here's the ad:-
1997/P maybe a 1996 - I'm not sure but not that important.
Red deep metallic (same colour as on the Clarkson vid).
40,000miles approx - 100% Genuine.
Good history - masses of paperwork.
All books, two sets of keys etc.
3 previous owners (4 inc me).
No accidents.
Very reliable.
Good tyres.
Drives well and is still very fast even by todays standards.
MOT until September-ish.

Negatives:-

Unused for a bit, so needs a service.
Could do with a bit of paintwork here and there too, stone chips the odd scratch etc - but depends what you want the car for I suppose.
Very, very slight oil leak.
Speedo works intermittent at speeds below 20mph (not usually a problem).
Seat worn on drivers bolster.
Full beam headlights don't appear to work.
Occasional crunch going into reverse gear.
Handbrake is currently inoperative.

That's it. I am being brutally honest and probably making the car sound a lot worse than it is. It isn't knackered and is in better condition that other one's that I've seen costing thousands more.

Only reason for sale is lack of time.

A couple of weekends, and this could be a really nice car.

It's a bargain as it is, so no silly offers please. It sells for £6,500 or I shove it in the garage for a few years until I have more time myself.

What was wrong with that advert, it says it was rejected and had a link to a fraud warning page.

Shame it wasn't a 4.5 as I'd be seriously interested.

Seemed like a perfectly acceptable ad to me. And what a bargain somebody get if it turns out to be reasonably healthy.
