I've got to the bottom of my overheating brakes. Stuck/sticking lower piston in the front nearside caliper.

Is it better to exchange for new and what price? AP 5200 or is there a kit?

Anyone else had this problem, first for me on all the cars I've had? :scratchin:

Remove calliper, strip, high-pressure steam clean, paint if required, re-grease and re-assemble....
If that dont work, time to upgrade to 8-pots????...

Or like most, just drop her off at an indie....

Thought I had a similar problem on my Cerbera last summer, started diving for the hedge when I braked fairly hard. The disk was running hot so I thought must be a stuck piston. On inspection I found that the piston was fine but the pad had gotten stuck in the caliper. I bought new pads and found that the outer pad did not fit the caliper very well, it was too tight.
The I noticed that there were some very rough surfaces on the bearing ends of the pad back plate, so I took a file to those which allowed the pads to "click" into position. This fixed the balance.

It was a 4.2 with standard brakes.

Cheers

Bob, Spoke to Waldonway and they thought the probability was likely that the calipers were not cleaned up properly when the pads were last changed and mentioned your view of the pads fitting correctly and something about a stainless bit that should be renewed. Doesn't sound like a major fault, thank goodness. Same car by the way 4.2 Cerb 98. Regards John
