A 54 plate model, not underseat one, traffic cleared on a dual private road and he went for it as i moved over, i then floored it as he levelled my drivers door, grabbed 4th and he couldnt keep up!
Backed off and it filtered through, so behind, and he went for it again, and it was in the way, the faster it gets the more the car had over it...
Pulled up at the lights and he woulnnt look at me smile

Nice one chap - I need to upload some vid of playing with a bike on the mountain road on the IOM just over a week ago. It was fun and included a lot of twisties.

Most TVRs can suprise an average bike rider on the twisty bits but you 2 loons have the awesome grunt to blow the crotch rockets away on the straights also.

I wouldnt dream of using my magic switch for such similar behaviour on the public highway.

You neednt worry about me, ive sealed my own.
I will be lucky to get there at all in mine and if i do i certainly wont be at a point where i can snap at your heels.
Even a Griff 500 will probably beat me. hehe

Not to be a balloon burster but methinks the R1 rider was short of a couple of testicles!
A Cerbera sure is a quick car but any R1 ridden well should win in a straight line drag from a rolling start.
The power-to-weight calcs should easily prove that.

I've just placed a deposit on a 4.5 Cerbera as it's the closest thing I'm going to get to motorbike performance on the road.
I'll stick to my GSXR 1000 for the race track - gas flowed head, Yoshimura cams and a full blueprint = 204 BHP at the flywheel. Add to that lowered gearing and you've got a Cerbera eater for rolling start acceleration.
Standing starts my money's on the TVR and braking again it's the TVR but out of the corners the bike will win.
Yes but this Cerbera is VERY far from the norm, as is Blackiepauls Sagaris. Take a look at their profiles to get some idea

I am sure Brummmies Cerb has a fair bit more than that @ wheels these days.
+ its a lot easier to replicate the numbers in practice in a car than on a bike.

You would need Carl Fogerty riding smile

Point taken but you if you do the maths the power-to-weight calcs are always going to be in favour of the bike if the assumption is ZERO wheelspin.

TVR Cerbera = 1100kg + 80kg (for driver) @ 500 BHP = 424 BHP/tonne

Yamaha R1 = 210kg + 90kg (for rider) @ 150 BHP = 500 BHP/tonne

Bike weight is an all up wet weight and an extra 10kg added for rider safety equipment.
Using the above numbers, assuming that both vehicle were in the correct gear and pilots had the same level of comittment, the bike would win and that's using a generous TVR power output.

In real terms though, the TVR driver was possibly a loonatic and the bike rider a wet Jesse.

Now if were talking about the noise of said encounter - TVR all the way.
I love the sound of a screaming crotch rocket but AJP V8 .... oh yes!! Now give me ten minutes please!

I like your calcs and thinking but you are not being generous enough for either of our power outputs. Only 500BHP, thats just plain dangerous smile

I agree with you, a bike should woop the car out of a corner and my money would be on most bikes so I am not having any argument here especially as I am a bike rider. Four bits of rubber don't half do well round corners though if set up right.

One thing you never know though.... was the bike really trying? I know the chap at the IOM was as we had a nice chat afterwards.

Its 532 at the wheels, aerodynamics come into it at some point, my car has achieved 202mph, an R1 would get no where near!
I do own a k6 GSXR 1000, the top end on my car never ceases to impress me though!

Which at 1.3x leptons on a runway would be experiencing 75% more acceleration than a 420bhp Cerbera.
At 1.4x leptons it would be over double.....

The R1 has a figure of 10.32 seconds at 137 mph.
...
Which is helped by being short so being able to put all (if the rider has the skill) the power on the driven rubber and also by quicker shifting sequential transmission. Not as relevant at much higher velocities.

Is that R1 1/4 mile time backed up in reality?
Both the cars above have run 11.1 @ 130ish (133 best IIRC)

These are with fair 60 foot times but big improvements can be made on launch.
Once the traction issue is sorted then ive predicted mid 10's for these cars.

Which is awesome (as they say over the pond)

I am at present doing 133.42 as a best quarter terminal, from there my Cerb will gain on it and pass, no question.

Logic would rather dictate that a man who lives on pies and lager would weigh more than a man who lives of roll ups and half pints.

Statistics would surely prove that the average TVR owner is noteably heavier than the average biker? biggrin

In the bikes defence, it was a little bit greasy yesterday. Where the bike really comes into it's own is acceleration and filtering. Given any normal journey the bike would win hands down. On my 40 mile commute the bike is easily 5 minutes faster every time, with no traffic issues.

Tiny fairing on those R1's though - anything over 130mph and they start to experience buffetting.

Realistically though in yesterdays conditions I'd expect a average summer rider to do approx 3.5-4 sec 0-60 on a R1 and about 6-6.5 secs to the 100, so probably around what brummies car could do.

I think we all agree there isnt a lot in it.
That in itself is what makes cars like this so astonishing.

Most bikers would never expect to have a car run similar performance figures to themselves and are suprised to say the least when it does happen.

Admittedly groovy as your car is brummie, I don't see it.

R1 has a better power weight ratio, and is much lighter. It'll get off the start faster due to the weight advantage, and keep going till the owner ran out of stomach.

The gearschanges on that R1 would be measured in milliseconds, and in your car would be substantially slower.

Most modern sportsbikes now like my S1000RR have millisecond quickshifters on. You literally don't do anything except hold on tight and kick your foot almost as fast as you can. Getting near 200 bhp in a 160kg package. You don't even move the throttle.

I'm not saying you didn't keep up with him, or even go past. Hell you certainly would have gone past me on my bike doing that. It just the machinery, as all the bike owning posters have said would not be the limiting factor smile.

The strange thing is that owning a GSX1000, you would already know that. Last time I rode one of those it was so wheely happy, that having the wheel on the ground became the limiting factor.

If you count that as a limitation of the machinery, then yes you will be faster.

Out of interest I still have a 2000 model R1. Although I would bet good money it was faster than your car, you'll never see it. Every time I open that up the front wheel comes up. You have to really lean over the front, and you still can't stop this happening.

The big problem with doing it, is that full power wheelies, hit the ground with a bump on each gearchange, and the bike never had a steering damper. So every hit is a wobble. There are very few people who would keep doing that to silly speeds as its bloody disconcerting smile.

I guess that is a limitation of the machinery

I dont have to change gear at all!
Have you ever qtr miled it, i bet you are not going much, if at all faster on your bike by the end of it?

You also have a top speed of around Genuine 175mph?
I have a genuine 202, so somewhere along the line i overtake.

I have a data logging of my run at Brunters, the steering is not straight until maybe 120mph out of the bottom corner, then after that its flat stick.
That must be the ultimate proof?

BTW from the graph my car takes around 4secs to go from 175-190mph, i cant work out how to post the graph because its in word, it takes around another 10secs to go from 190-202 because its revving its t!ts of by then!
It goes from 75-125mph in 5secs dead, but i was cornering at that stage, so not really that accurate, i could'nt give it full throttle there as it was trying to go sideways.
