Early 4.2 engine rebuild - what to do with the crank?
Discussion
In a few weeks I'll be starting a full rebuild on the AJP, my intention is to rebuild the pumps, get the bottom end balanced and rebuild the heads.
I'm wondering what I should do about the crank. It's an early 4.2, so likely to have a "weaker" cast crank. I'm thinking the best course of action is to get my crank crack tested and nitrided? Are the cranks nitrided as standard? Or would it just be better/cheaper/easier in the long run to look out for a later crank?

Journal sizes are different, early = small, later = larger (as you are aware). So you'd have to get a bit of machining done to the block.
It may be simpler/easier to try and get hold of an early billet small journal crank built for the first Tuscan racers. If it was me I'd check with Dom @ Power or Andy @ APM to see if they can lay their hands on or have one.
