I see the startermotor, and i see the coil inside, am I right in believing the coil should not be visible? I am assuming the starter motor casing has slided back and the charge is thus shorting against the body.... right?????

Ahhh this is exactly what happened to mine a while back. Definitely not good. I had to get a new one!

Either a recon job or a new one from that direct OE reseller... I could probably have a go myself, but I'd probably take 10 hours.... so I'll leave it for joo to sort out in 30 mins to an hour tops I guess....

damn, I wouldnt mind having to turn the engine over myself, I'm sure I can produce 2 horsepower with a few spins...

anyway a litte off topic, but why are they putting a starter motor on the flywheel? I mean this engine vibrates a lot as we know, its destined to bugger up the starter motor package... why not have a direct crank starter motor? plenty of space in front of the engine to wack one in... same effect right?

I got a recon one in and it works a treat now, plus it was much cheaper

Can I have the starter motor you are about to throw away cos ten seconds with a couple of screws to secure the casing and I would have reclaimed something else from our throw away society.

Most cars have their starters on the flywheel, I think??? If it went straight to the crank you would need a massive motor just to turn it over! This way its on a ring gear around the outside of the flywheel.

The starter motor is not that hard to remove, I am sure there are threads on here about it.

Enjoy, oh and wicked colour!

I was probably referring to some of the big block V8 hotrods I've seen, with what looks like a supercharger sticking out of the engines front, but turns out to be the starter motor, it is quite big, a lot more solid looking than these tilton superstarters, which for fecks sake, dont even have a clamping bar for the motor case.... nearly all the other high performance starters I've seen have a clamping bolt down the side of the motor case at least....

Probably wont have to throw it away, joo might be able to save it.... heavy heat-proof ducktaping... haha....

It goes onto the flywheel so that you can gear down the starter. Fywheel big gear... starter little one. To put it on the crank would either require a more powerful motor or a gearbox to do the same job. Both increase cost.

A recon is the cheapest option. Worth fitting a heat shield if it deosn't have one already.
