Hi guys,

Picked up my first TVR & first Cerb Sat morning. In true Cerb style she's already in the indie garage! A few niggles here & there to sort out but the main one is while checking her over they've picked up on a missfire. They've done a compression test which came out fine, but they didn't give figures.Next is plugs & leads. If it turns out not to be those either, can you tell me what's next & will I be heading down the road of silly money?

Many thanks.

Dave.
P.s. first lesson I learned was not to open the bonnet too far...or you hear a nasty crack & need your bonnet hinge pin re glassed! rolleyes

Coil Packs, available for anything from £30 to £80 each. However the fun part is actually getting to them.

Mine had a little miss a couple of months back, The car was ment to have had a Full 12k service less than 1000 miles ago looks like the plugs had done alot more than 12k changed them out all good, To be safe i fitted new leads while at it.

plug you lap top in to the car as well and see if any faults flash up first.

Then work back from the plugs , leads ,coil packs

On the SP6 the coil pack is easy to get to it,s just below the air box, remove it and it is down on the left hand side. As has been said try the leads and plugs also. Congratulations on buying the Speed Six Cerbera they are fantastic.

Hi Andy. It's a 2000 Sp6 in GTS blue,Portland interior.Pretty much standard at the mo apart from the 18" gun metal alloys.Just gotta get her sorted before I blow the rest of my budget on de-cats,brakes,headlight conversion & all the other pretty bits.

Sounds good. Like the sound of the wheels. Enjoying the TVR ownership experience?

Looks nice. The wheels are 'SP12' (or possibly the original non machined from Rimstock).

If you are thinking of spending money then I would (sorry if I sound like a broken record) do it in the following order:-

-> Keep some cash for the inevitable big bills
-> Get the car checked out for any immediate work needed to engine, chassis etc....
-> Suspension - if it hasnt already got after market shocks then look into Nitron and the like.
-> De-cat - cheap but effective
-> Brakes - do they need attention or are you a serious trackday person? Otherwise I am sure they will be fine.
-> Lights - I wouldnt ruin the originality but I would stick with the originals. IMHO

I learned something new last week regarding the 6 engine.

Miss fire like yours but when the guys broke the top cover seal to check the spark plugs, the first four caps that make the waterproof seal into the spark plug holes were missing. Which as you can guess, now had more water in than a bloody fish bowl.

Hi Gazzab.
Good sound advice, which will be taken on board.I'm basically keeping a few k back for the basis of my maintenance fund, which will get added to each month. She's in at the moment getting the important bits done- missfire, bonnet hinge, chassis cleaned and waxoyled & a power steering leak looked at.Whatever is left out of the rest of the funds may well be added to the maintenance fund,if I can resist the urge spend on upgrades etc.

It's hard not to get excited and get carried away with " I want that & that & that.." but my main priority must be to keep her running well.To be honest, everything else can wait coz I'm just sooo happy to finally own my very own Cerb.Feel like going downstairs in the middle of the night to have a quick peek in the garage .:-)

So the mods CAN wait.I'll take note on the brakes coz I can't see myself tracking it..not for a while anyway. Was thinking of Gaz Gold Pros & changing bushes all round. If I'm not really thinking of track days I didn't think I would get much benefit from spending the extra on the Nitrons- feel free to put me right.De cats will prob give me the best smiles/£ value- I love to listen to the sound.

I'm sure with all the friendly advice from you guys, some blood, sweat, and hard saving,I can do my best to keep another great British beast on the road, putting smiles on faces of all those who see her, ride in her and hear her.

Cheers.

Good man :-)
Which indie is it at and why did they do a compression test?
If you are in Dudley then a trip to TVR power might be worthwhile?
Do you know what shocks are on the car presently?

It's gone to Central TVR,It's only a few miles away from me,which I think is part of the 'Power' group, but may be more on the body shop side. They still do all the servicing stuff etc.Compression tests are above my level of understanding- I'm still getting to grips with the alarm! Lol.I gave it them telling them what I knew was wrong & to give it a going over to see what else needed doing.

All suspension is standard as far as I'm aware.

Good news,it was all sorted by new leads. All the other niggles sorted as well. All I need now is for the sun to shine & it last long enough for her to warm up before it lashes it down again.

Cheers.
