Thought I'd post at how well behaved my Cerb was over a long weekend in this heat and in horrible traffic on Friday seeing as most visitors to the forum go on about reliability.
On Friday I drove from Gatwick to Sizewell in Suffolk with the Cerb stuffed to the brim with a weekends camping gear, it took nearly 5 hours thanks to accidents and burning cars and the Cerb was perfectly well behaved thoughout it all. I even had nice cold air coming out of the A/C.
It then got used all weekend for touring about the area in the heat and all the way back yesterday again without problems. It was a pleasure to use and got some interesting looks on the campsite as I burbled in and out over the weekend. The fuel consumption was a different story wink

Sounds good! though I wouldn't speak too soon.. I remember how impressed I was one time when I took it up to Brum and it sat in traffic most of the way back to London with the fans kicking in and out the whole way.. when the traffic cleared it was all good but the next time I took it out it felt a little rough/lumpy and needed some new HT leads that must have broken down during the heat/cool cycling! Nothing major as most treat HT leads/coils/T-pots as consumables anyway lol

Yes, I knew it was a gamble posting this, next time out I bet something horrible happens. I'm hoping to get it remapped soon as it does run very rough under 2k rpm, as if it has a misfire but its had all of those bits you mention replaced already and at 3k rpm it just picks up and flies with no hesitation.
In theory its a 4.5 bottom end with a 4.2 induction (2004 car) on the recent Austec TVRCC RR day Paul told me the map from the factory was awful, although peak power and torque were good, the driveability could be improved a fair bit.

Two years and not missed a beat at all, not once.

Now that is what I call tempting fate, but it is the truth. well over 1000 track miles in that time as well.

Took mine to Bristol from Stevenage Monday evening Tuesday evening, M1, M25, M4. It never missed a beat, perfect...

Because I got stuck in traffic which never got above about 65 for quite a while I decided to see what I could get if I drove it sensibly. What I got was about as frustrated as a man tied to a chair surrounded by Hawian Tropic girls!! But, sticking to around 70 it did about 28mpg - not bad. A collegue of mine turned up in his new Diesel Disco, not nearly as much fun and that only did 28mpg too..... Still, on reflection, the sensible thing was probably a 1 off.....jester

Off to the lakes tomorrow for grasswidows and c3bers 25th wedding anniversary, whether it's raining or shining. A couple of twisty roads to the hotel and back and I'm not worried one little bit.

I think a couple of starter motors, an alternator and a clutch in five years ain't to bad. Other bibs and nobs like discs are not counted.

Scotty,
Wow 19mpg on a run!!! How fast do you runlaugh I get 17 to 19 going to work through the week, I got 22mpg overall going to Le Mans this year...... and I may have transgressed the speed limit a few times (in France of course, never in Blighty... you can check with the R8 and the Aston behind us, where did they get to?), not to mention flooring it through the Rouen tunnel just because, well, you cant not. Maybe I need to try harderscratchchin

I do work out My MPG mostly ever time i fill up just to see( not that i care or i would not have a TVR) But i tend to see mainly 14-16MPG for my kind of driving as i have started to use it as my main car ( still less then 4k a year) so alot of town driving to shops and so on. so when i can let lose on the back roads i do.

Saying that it was better on fuel driving 65 miles to the track doing say 25-30 laps of Knockhill then driving the 65 miles back home it did 18 MPG

HOW?????? laugh

Before the rebuild I would get 19mpg on a run and sub-12mpg around town... haven't calculated it since the rebuild but I'm not expecting the figure to change..

2800 miles to the south of France driving all the roads such as the cul du-turini and at warp speed whistle everyday for 8 days, basically a trackday everyday and only the brake light switch melted rotate

I too seem to have been lucky so far - 2 happy years, 10,000 miles including 500 on track. I've been from Chelmsford to Manchester several times, the lakes, devon, north wales a couple of times, and John O'Groats! The car hasn't let me down once (apart from flat batteries when I've left her for a couple of weeks) and nothing's gone wrong apart from the usual oil leaks, a bit of coolant use and a weak door solenoid. Oh, and a leaking clutch pipe.

Bills? 2 x annual services, 1 set of front discs, a clutch pipe and a couple of lambda sensors, altogether less than £2k.

Of course, the inevitable outrigger / chassis refurb is looming, and there's a list of minor jobs that ought to be done, but altogether not bad for a '98 4.2 with 70k on the clock!

Although I suppose I've now gone and tempted fate in a big way!

Three months,2500 miles,25 ish MPG.

Following an initial couple of days addressing minor issues, lack of use basically, Cerb`s given me faultless pleasure as a daily driver.

Can`t understand why people are reluctant to drive em` they`re truly great, useable cars that benefit from being driven ... plus the buzz from walking back to it never fades biggrin

5 years in a Speed 6 and never broken down or needed any major engine work(3 years in a Tuscan before my Cerb) I've replaced a few items through my choice not because it was broken. Suspension being the bigest bill at £600 but made a huge improvement to the drivability of the car.
