Oil pressure zero - urgent help required.

Hi all.

I've been using the Cerbera all day with no problems. Parked up about half an hour ago, came to restart the car and she idled for about 3 seconds, the oil pressure dropped to zero very quickly and then she stalled. I've tried to start it once since, the starter motor turns but the engine won't catch.

I'm stuck in the middle of Goole now with a very cross girlfriend - suggestions required ASAP!

Im not sure you really want mechanical advice from me, but in the absence of others for the time being, I would;

1. Dip the oil to make sure there is some in there

2. Check the Big Fuse (remembering a hairline crack can be all it needs to FUBAR the electrics).

Without any real knowledge on the subject I'd be heading down the fuse route (if there is oil on the dipstick) as this can cause problems with the oil pressure guage

Finally 3 & 4. Phone the AA and buy the g/f the biggest bunch of flowers you can find (is this a new one or a return of the old one?)

Thanks Fubes. Called recovery services out, they have accused me of flooding the engine! How can that work when I start the car, it runs and then dies without me even touching the throttle? I also used no throttle when trying to get it going again. Also leaving 1 hour between attempted restarts would rule out flooding, surely?

Anyway, in short, the car is going again and she's now back home resting.

ETA - FUBAR, its the return of the old Miss Robsco. I'd come through to Goole to pick her up from the library, but it was so bloody muggy today pre-thunderstorm that I decided it was best to stop off for an ice cream before we set back off (boy it gets warm in that cabin!). It was upon returning to the old girl that she wouldn't start.

I'll ask a couple more questions on this thread while I'm here, I feel like I'm starting rather too many topics on here recently!

Does anyone know where to order new carpet mats from? The driver's one in particular has seen better days.

Roll the carpet up, stick it in a cardboard tube and post it to D & C Trim in Blackpool. They'll make one up exactly the same size and colour. I'm just about to do the same to mine. Can't remember exactly but think I was quoted about £40 per mat?

Seem to recall the same problem with mine, years ago, in similar weather.
I think the MIL light came on too.

Think the indie at the time mentioned the fuel vaporising ? It's never done it since though.

Thanks for the info on the carpets, I'll get onto that. Russell, the MIL light didn't illuminate. Perhaps I was panicking over nothing, it frightens you when the oil pressure just disappears like it did. In hindsight, I probably overanalysed the situation and immediately started thinking of the worse case scenario.

was the oil light also on when there was no oil pressure?
I think the oil light and oil pressure sensors are fed separately

Hi, there was no oil light. Started engine, idle dropped over the course of 3 or 4 seconds with oil pressure, engine died. Wouldn't restart. Had a walk round town for an hour or so, returned to car, tried again and still wouldn't restart, no throttle applied.

I have just replaced my carpets from the link below. 4 new mats and i had TVR stitched in both front mats as well as a drivers side stainless heel plate for £77 delivered to my door.

Very happy with them

Wow! That's a bargain! now do I go for black or grey? My Cerb is black with black leather and dark grey carpets. I was thinking of lightening up the interior so could go for grey or maybe anthracite with black piping. Decision decisions. Any suggestions?

Just ordered the Autostyle ones in black with yellow trim with heel plates on both sides and logos. Bargain! Now to find out where the rain is getting in so they don't and up like the current ones. Anyone know where the late (post 2000) door seals can be had from, I mean the ones that the windows butt up to at the top as opposed to the push on rubber strip around the bottom of the door hole.

Mine used to leak from the door seals got new ones from Racing Green and now all is water tight again.
