Fuel pump?

Hello all,

Out of curiosity:

I spent a very pleasing evening washing and waxing the car. I noticed however, that every few seconds there's what I assume to be the fuel pump pressurising the system. It's the same noise I get as the MIL light comes on (not the high pitched immobiliser sound) after I have pressed the start button for the first time and then the key fob during the start sequence.

I had the car unlocked but I hadn't initialised the start sequence.

Is this normal?

No that doesn't sound right at all! I would reach under the rear wheel and see if you can feel any vibration from the fuel pump, or take the wheel off and disconnect the pump to see if the noise goes away. If the fuel pump is running without the ignition on, then it could indicate a problem with the immobiliser/ignition circuits.

All good today, maybe the car was just grumbling yesterday because I hadn't paid it enough attention recently!
