Anyone got any idea of the rough weight of the engine and gearbox?

Engine is supposed to be 180Kg, I'm guessing the gearbox is about 50Kg (however a quick Google suggests it's only 75 pounds). Just shows that I'm a bit weedy!

May need to allow for the clutch pack as well...

I thought I'd read somewhere that the engine weighs 121Kg?

Has anyone actually stood one on the scales rather than relying on the bastion of misinformation Wikipedia? smile

I can weigh the T5 for you, but my block's not going anywhere...

I still think 120Kg sounds very light indeed, my 928 engine is 264Kg dry.

The AJP8 is an exceptionally light engine. I weighed my one with some bathroom scales at just under 110kg, but that was with minimal ancillaries.

The link itself is dead, that is the Google cached version.

If you wouldn't mind weighing the T5 I would be most appreciative!
Its probably not as heavy as it seems when you are lying underneath it trying to prop it up on your forehead while fidgeting it into place...

as a westfield owner and being slightly concerned with weight i can say that 121 kg does not seem to represent an engine that could be considered to be installed in a car and working.....
With the changes to my car from a rover V8 engine and R380 to an AJP and T5, it is about 15kg lighter all in.
however other items are added making it more complex. i estimate an AJP weighs closer to 150kg with oil and induction, perhaps more. It still very light but not 121 in a usable state. cheers Jon

That's more like an S6 weight. The AJP V8 is one of the lightest V8s ever put in a road car.

Mine will be removed shortly, I will get it weighed with all of the ancillaries including air boxes, air con and alternator for you.

It will not be including the oil though so I guess it would be it's dry weight.

Oil cannot be more than about 4kg.

I would be very interested in the actual weight of an engine fully dressed and ready to run. As you state oil and water can be weighed easily but not an engine. When you say it is more than an S6, is that the official weight ?
As i found from actually weighing my car in various forms, there is a lot of variation in how it is quoted. Some manufacturers quote car weights with no fluids and no options fitted (ie sunroof, electric windows etc) and others do seem to add them. Most "official" weights are certainly less than what you find in reality. For me the weight of a car or component is, as installed in a car with ancillaries and fluids when it might actually be useful. I know why some manufacturers do it as a headline grabber but in reality if you take your Cerbera to a public weighbridge, you would find some wide ranges of results i bet and almost all wouldbe more than you expect? It doesn't matter that is more because all of them are and so are other car manufacturers, its not just TVR for once. cheers Jon

The other way round. The S6 is a lot heavier.

That would be great - many thanks!

I'm guessing about 120kg for the engine with all ancillaries except induction - two of us could pick it up fairly easily anyway!

I have personally weighed a fully dressed AJP at 122kg dry. By fully dressed I mean ancilliaries on except exhaust manifolds and throttle bodies, no coil packs, no aircon compressor, flywheel fitted, no clutch.

122kg is a good start and I expect manifolds, throttle bodies and extras will add quite a but more. When the engine is out, it would be good to weigh at various points of disassembly so people can work a meaningful figure for their install. Mine has no air con pulley surprisingly...
