Cerbera Mods - Making it better to live with.

Hi all,

Been lurking in here for a while and plans are afoot that are bringing my Cerbera ownership closer to a reality. I tried to use the search facility (its broken at the moment)to see whats been said before on what i need to know, but i was basically curious to know what mods are essential on every Cerbera that make the day to day living easier?

I'm talking about the following areas;

- Cooling.
- Mirror Switch Failures.
- Engine Issues.
- Electrical Issues.

I'm going into this with my eyes wide open, a friend had one which had the usual clutch problem, the mirror door switches were corroded, so i was hoping to get an idea of the jobs involved to make whatever i purchase, a sorted one, unless it already has been that is. I'm looking at a Speed Six around 2001/2002 depending on colour combo and mileage. Tarhere are some peaches in the classifieds around my budget that seem loved, but i thought i would do my due diligence and make sure.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Mirror switch failures aren't a regular one and are an easy fix.
If you are after a s6 then you are best searching in the s6 engine section re cooling , rebuilds etc
I would go by the following:-
Condition, history, owner.

The one i've found looks nice, been well cared for and has alot of receipts and history with it. I was more concerned with the ongoing 'potential' problems and was wondering what i needed to ask to further enhance its appeal. As is, 'its had the XYZ Radiator and Fan upgrade' and 'the mirror switches have had the ABC modification' so its pretty much sorted. I think with the mirror switches its a case of having the wiring protected with heat shrink connectors?

I used to own a Griffith and went through the various things during ownership to make sure it stayed at its peak. I would of course get an accumate trickle charger as i gather they're excellent.

upgrade the suspension and keep the teeth in your mouth! I recommend Nitrons

One modification/improvement that I have found very worthwhile is to replace all the wiring connectors inside the doors with high quality AMP waterproof ones. All my door and window electrical problems went away!

Decent set of shocks - if you are not tracking the car then something like ProTechs as a good compromise between cost and performance (I have a set of these and am happy with them).
HID headlight conversion - originals are about as much use as holding a candle in front of the car
Consider investing in new door seals, then ensuring that the mastic is complete in drivers footwell where the master cycl etc are mounted
Wire in a trickle charge connection for the battery - try to always keep the battery in tip top condition
Remap - works wonders for the drivability of the car and you may also get more power

Then just enjoy!

I got mine from fleabay They are available from 2 way up to 6 way. Or you might try Vehicle Wiring Products etc.

My drivers side door mirror stopped working so I took it apart, and thought I'd take apart the passenger side one and order them together and as soon as I took the passenger side apart the connector fell apart leaving both door switches useless!

I bought some new ones from RS for a few £ and added the plastic covers to the order, and then when I installed them i hot glued the soldered connections to prevent water ever getting to the switches again..

Another thing i say is worth doing is hunting down a "cooling chip" so the fans kick in around 83 and 85'C rather than 93 and 98'C

Oh and lastly I had a 'SPA' digital oil pressure/water temp gauge fitted, not only is it a lot more accurate than the mechanical TVR gauge (as it uses electrical sensors) but has built in warning lights to warn you of low oil pressure and high water temp..

And as above, I installed some HIDs and had some mk2 door seals installed..

Speed Six owner here, as has been said suspension is a must if not already upgraded, HIds are well worth doing as well. If you do get new suspension/coilovers get a good geometry set up, one thing is no good with out the other in my opinion. The rest might be cosmetic like powder coating the cam cover etc.
