Hi All,

Has anyone fitted themselves, or had fitted one of these? What's the concencious?

My factory fitted slave has just failed for the second time in 3 months, I replaced the seals back in June and now just want it sorted!

What should I be aware of before comitting to one?

Regards,
Olly

I have one of these fitted as mine failed earlier in the year. If you follow the instructions you should have no problems with it.

I did look at having the seals replaced but with the labour involved, I just bit the bullet and went with the whole new slave in the end. Only thing we found was that after bleeding the clutch, we still had some old fluid that must have been in the lines or bell housing so the "new" fluid was pretty cruddy after a week.

We just simply flushed it out again and the pedal has been beautifully consistent and light since then (until my crankshaft snapped).

Having changed the seals on the standard slave a couple of times (and only had a short life from them) I eventually replaced it with a Raceproved slave. The difference is chalk and cheese. The Raceproved slave is beautifully engineered and being aluminium only weighs about a quarter of the standard slave. Also being teflon coated it should be a lot less hard on the seals and I have had no further slave problems since I changed it a couple of years ago, where the standard one was eating seals in about 6 months.

I used to replace a slave cyl every 10k or so, once I swapped to the RP slave this problem went away. Get one.

I think its the clutches that Raceproved don't do any more - not the slave cylinders.

Olly, I fitted one back in September 2007 along with one of their clutches. Once completed the clutch peddle was far lighter to press, never had a problem with it.

A lighter clutch would be a blessing. Would I need the whole clutch replacing or would just changing the slave do it? What cost are we looking at, assuming it is fitted by a decent garage (I have no time and even less expertise)?

Although others have said the Raceproved slave gives a 'lighter' clutch I wouldn't agree, it (or atleast mine) does however give what I'd describe as a more 'precision' feel, and certainly smoother. For me the feel of it wasn't my main concern, I just wanted a more reliable solution. I guess the strength of the clutch fingers affects the feel too.

As for costs, I paid £277.44 for the slave cylinder, and - although I fitted it myself - out of interest I did get quotes to fit the part ranging from £300 - £500. As I understand it, a clutch assembly is further £400 - £500.

I hope this helps!

Regards,
Olly

Mark.

Had a quote at the very bottom end of Boatbuoy's from a very local indie to you.

Cheers for that. I'll be popping round for a chat with them in the near future - just to see what's what like.;)
