Dash lights

Tried the heading fuse but not much response,so will try this.Dash lights etc not working when lights switched on
I think it must be the switch or the ribbon cable,expect someone on here has had this problem any pointers. please please pretty please

Lol. Thing is the lawn measures 32 acres and my eyes are now more like Clarence the lion (for those that remember).

If the fuses all check out OK, remove the dash to check the connections. Easy job, undo the 2 butterfly nuts at the bottom front 'corners' of the Dash binnacle, lift it off. then undo the 2 self tappers holding the instrument facia plate.

Cheers sir that was my next port of call,got the switch out to check that and all the ribbons are ok.just one thing on the drivers side in the foowell to the right i have a small box which has had at some point in its life a knob on it any ideas,didnt turn it but was tempted.

One quick think the fog light switch does light up

The knob your missing is the aircon setting switch. Leave it alone unless you think it's not cold enough etc.

That works as a separate light which does not switch on with your light knob. There has to be a break or an earth issue with the dash and door light. I would take the door cover off and see if there is a break in those.

LOL oh bud it does on mine if you turn fog light on it only comes on with main light switch,got half the car in bits now,thanks for the pointer on air con temp thingy.in behind main swith is a pcb which branches out two ribbon cables,one goes to the fog switch.We will both be clever soon maybe an IQ of 10 between us

Replace fog light with aircon light lol, I miss read your post.

One five line ribbon for fog using three lines and the other five line ribbon using four lines.

There must be a link between door light failure.

I'm sure there is a sparky reading this and is laughing his or her head off at our fumbling in the dark.

I'm an aircraft avionics engineer (elec systems) although I'm not so good with cars if you can tell me where I can get some wiring diagrams I'd be happy to have a look at them and see if I can shed some light on the matter.

OK thanks guys, I'll print these out and have a look at them properly and see if I can shed any light on the problem.

Can you just confirm that I've understood you correctly, when you switch the headlights on the dash lights do not light up. These indclude instrument lightsrear fog light switch and what else? Door unlock buttons?

I don't get me Cerb until this weekend so can't just pop outside and have a look.

Bud the fog light switch comes on as it should.its all the rest that dont, even the door switches.Will try to locate spliced joint 9a as this appears to be the wire connection point to the bits that are not working.I think it may be in the wheel arch on the drivers side where the air con unit sitsmay be wrong.The thing is that about 2 months ago i took the panel off to reseal it and neatly tucked a couple of wires into what i thought was a better position so this may have just disrupted the connectorif it is infact in there

no sir the LED,s have gone as well,and i have tested these and they do work.;)
