Mine missed the Front Upright Recall

Last week I was preparing the cerbera for a track day at Bruntingthorpe, not done one for a while so thought I'd give the Cerbera a good going over in readiness for the track.

Removed front N/S wheel to check disc & pads and found the Upright cracked right through one side . It appears mine missed the re-call all though's year ago and now I'm paying the price. Ho-hum!

At least I found it before the track day, could have been fatal for me and the car!

What year was the re call and what was done ?

Mine was done, ( April 97 car ) it's got a sliver round sticker saying so, on the inner wing vin plate

Had the car since July 2004 (it's a 4.5 1998) and had no proof that the re-call had been done so always kept my eye on this potential issue.

Not had the wheels off since March this year and been to Le Mans etc over the summer covering 1000+ miles. I don't know when it cracked but glad I saw it before the track day, which would have been today but cancelled!

I've been in touch with TVR Power and Andy has been great sorting all the components required to complete the modification/recall...trouble is it's cost me £350 for the pleasure.

I'm stripping it this weekend so will post photos of the cracked upright. I'm still surprised I spotted it as its quite difficult to see. The crack is still fairly fresh but after time and dirt you'd never spot it. Lucky me hey!

I remember both my last cerberas being recalled for this, then a certain garage putting it all back together with the wrong camber set and shredding my front tires.

Mine is a 2001 4.5 and also has silver sticker next to vin plate stating it was done

You ever had it serviced at an official tvr garage before the company went tits up? If so, a would be chasing them for not carrying out the recall!

Replaced them today, both were cracked.

One cracked all way through with another crack appearing on the other side of the sade upright. This was the near side, the off side was not so bad but was still cracked.

Changing these uprights don't change the camber? I was concerned I would have the added expense of this (having only had a 4 wheel tracking set-up earlier this year at 100 quid). It all unbolts and bolts back together the same way, the track rod ends are not moved and bolt to the base upright with added dowel pins so back to exact same position.

Something I did notice which was strange, the wheel studs were bent on the bearing hubs, both fronts. Rears are OK and true but the wheel studs were all bent, some more than others!

For all your information, the wheel studs are Jeep (1/2" UNF) you can get them from USAutomotive in Bedford for £1.75 each - look on Ebay for these under jeep studs.

TVR Power, speak to Andy. You want the whole re-call kit not just the uprights, including all the bolts which are 12.9 high tensile not the normal 8.8 HT. He'll need to know what size front discs you are using - Mine are 322mm for a standard 4.5 cerbera. He needs to know this for the size of spacer for the brake calipers.

I paid £350 including VAT and shipping for both sides including all fixings.

Just one other thing, you'll need lots of loctite (threadlock)!
