aerodynamic blade ?

Hello everybody,
i have changed all shocks around my car and observing it under, i noticed some holes under the front bumper.
I don't know why there are theses holes.
Have you got an explanation about them ?
I'm thinking maybe that there was a blade or something like this under.
But i'm not sure...

They are often sold on here - look through classifieds.
They reduce under bonnet turbulence and/or front end lift.
I dont have one on my cerb and havent had any lift issues.
My last cerb had one I think and was pretty steady at 180+.

Yes a deflector was fitted as standard, the main effect is to reduce the amount of air being pushed into the engine bay which causes the bonnet to lift at speed. Without it, an unfastened bonnet will start to lift at 90mph or so. With the deflector fitted, the bonnet won't start to lift until about 125mph.

At 170 plus and with one catch snapped my bonnet lifted at least 100mm on the drivers side. All good fun when your engine is trying to get out. I was thinking about putting one on for special days but generally I think I would rip it off.

Now here is a good question:

Do they face forward or backwards as I've seen them pointing in both directions?

Had this twice happen to me and one was on a track day, Quite scary when you cant see where you are going. but a quick jab on the brakes and a quick half turn all is safe.

It faces backwards as standard but some have fitted them pointing forwards which works just as well. I take mine off when loading it onto a flatbed otherwise the cable can rip it off. Mine's currently lying on the garage floor underneath the car waiting to be put back on

Backwards did seem the obvious way to go with the deflector but I did wonder why some had them facing forwards. Not sure I would get home with the deflector still in place if I put one on.

I looked at Robs car (robsco) a few weeks ago and he has the classic multi hole and still in place but bent self tappers on the front. Which got me thinking about some kind of flexible but rigged blade.

I made one for my car from a piece of stainless about 1000mm x 100mm folded at 135*

My car lives so no "lift" required. Temporary engine is running sweet and the original engine is in mid flow presently, going to refresh bottom end whilst it's out, as well as put better gaskets in etc

I was shocked and surprised when I realised mine still has the original blade underneath. My bonnet is steady as a rock at 100mph.
