Lesson 1 - Plenty of rev's (2.5k at least) & slow clutch movement, it feels like your slipping it, but thats how its done

Lesson 2 - (Excuse me ladies) - Like your missus, be firm but fair, treat it likle a girl & it'll treat you like a girl, be firm (especially gear changes) & let it know who's boss & the pleasure is immense, drifting on demand, 2nd gear through town up to 5k revs & spitting fire out the rear whilst getting 'everyones' attention - life does not get much better!

Lesson 3 - Driving a Cerb is definately not about looking like a t*sser, it will draw a crowd everytime you stop, making every other driver slightly infertile...until that inveitable cough splutter, side of the road thing. But no matter how many times it dies you'll always forget the bad times, cos when it comes back, its like you are 5 its xmas all over again... Have fun!!

I didn't realise you could stall a TVR. Surely there's too much torque for that to happen.

The problem with TVR's is not the power pulling away, it's the engine braking when slowing down. Don't be tempted to copy the boy racers in their Subaru's that slam it down a gear and bounce the revs up to the red line when braking, because all that'll happen is the rear wheels will lock up and you'll lose control of it.

Don't be too put off though because owning a TVR is sooooo much fun.

Welcome aboard.

You have a Griffith No1. Rover V8's have loads of torque low down in the rev range whereas Cerbera's are a little bit further up.

Pulling away just takes practice, delicate throttle control and be light on the clutch.

Take it easy for the first couple of miles, feed the power in progressively and you should not have too many probs.

If you give it plenty of beans then a) you will probably spin the wheels, & b) get it sideways which can be a bit disconcering at first but you do get used to it!

Other than that, be aware that the handbrake is "iffy" on anything other than a slight rise and the fact that you will have small kids pointing/falling over; grown men foaming at the mouth and more gusset snapping power than you will know what to do with.

ENJOY

Wow...that's an understatement to be sure...

Believe me....you can stall a Cerb.....

We had owned a fair number of sports cars before buying the Cerb and I had driven every one without a problem....however, when Ray eventually let me get round to driving the Peril he took great pains to emphasise that if I gave her too much welly from start she would be facing the other way pretty damn quick.....

Made me very nervous and I spent the first couple of hours stalling at every junction!!!!!!
Not good news, especially if you've pulled out a way before she dies on you!!!

All I can say Hollywood is that you just have to block everything out when you first get her and just FEEL it!!! (I can imagine the comments THAT will get..... )

But it's true......

Oh......and another thing I would respectfully suggest.....never take it for granted......cos Cerbs can bite, sometimes when you least expect it!!!

Sounds like you've got a bit of an inferiority complex there Simon
You'll be fine - though I'll wager you stall it at least once on the way home!
By the way, I'm back, so call whenever!
Oh, and I'm back with an empty wallet and a delivery date for another TVR!

Le Mans was fantastic - but we had to get the early ferry back (this morning), so I'm back in the UK.
Don't start with the ski-rack comments, that's the best feature of the car! I've got another 12 months of driving it too!

Theres two issues here.
1) How to drive a car: I believe its mirror, signal manoeuvre.
2) Looking like a tosser. Chances are if you're not a tosser you won't look like one.

Interesting.....I found that applying that sort of revs tended to result in problems pulling away as the revs drop so quickly due to the lack of flywheel effect - either stalled or kangarooed up the road!!

Usually pull away without any drama from little over 1000 - 1200rpm.

Am I the only one finding this???
